Yup... race motors these are not.

Lots of design variances.

Any thoughts on why some cars are putting out more hp with the same mods?

I like to think the Mini gods were smiling down upon me. Plus Jan is in good standing with them!

Not to be too exacting but we know you meant........ 'manufacturing variances' not 'design variances'.

Yea, you're right, but now that I think about it I'm not convinced that there AREN'T any design variances...

Those crazy Brits...

Ok 3 easy questions:
1. What do we expect the 17% pulley is providing over a 15% on this 259 run? Nothing, 2hp, 5hp ?
2. 440 is huge, how much hp/tq value over the standard JCW 380s?
3. Did the compression and leakdown testing indicate a tight/strong bottom end on this engine? I would think so.

1. 2-5 hp
2. 440's have more to do with safety and less to do with power. The car will go lean with 380's
3. That's a Jan question

the car made 238whp with stock JCW pulley and 180something torque

with 17% pulley, RMW cam and 440cc injectors

you got 259/209tq

3. of course it did....

Rusty and Jan:
1. OK thanks and as expected. 2-5hp is not that much, but the 17% also does move the boost to a slightly lower rpm, so i guess maybe some street value. We spoke similarly a few days ago.
2. So, at some engine operating condition after a tune these 440s are running wide open? Or maybe are they always running below maybe 402 for example, and the next size up is 440 ?
3. must be strong...

Shouldn't be running wide open. You usually size injectors for 50-60% duty cycle. Anything over 80 can cause high failure rates.

actually, as long as there's a stronger fuel pump behind it, IDC up around 90-95% is ok. It's about volume too

and Jan....email? check it?

He asked about 15% to 17% (JCW is ~12%)

Agree with Rusty, for my JCW pulley it measured at 58mm and so calculating from the stock 0% at 65.5mm brings me to 11.45% redux for my JCW pulley. So, ~12% is close enough.

I can belive ~10 from JCW to 17%.

it really is way unbelievable . my car wanders now in 2nd and i can only estimate around 200 . so 259 280 is mind bogling . we're talking clutch , lsd , sticky's . gear ratios , etc. just to make it pull . !!!

Herbie,
Without the LSD my car did move around a bit in first and second. I had the FX300 and a factory LSD put in at the same time. First gear is a test of moderation, but second comes hard and pulls straight and true. Drives quite nice.
