RMW Rocks the UK!!

Car: Mini Cooper S
Build date: Jan 2003
Mileage: 42k

Previous results (27/02/08) with the following mods:

Alta V2 15% Pulley
GRS Intercooler
NGK Spark Plugs
Alta V2 CAI
Janspeed Manifold
Milltek Cat-Back
Superchips map

Power: 239.9 bhp @ 7,177 rpm
Torque: 178.9 lbs ft @ 6,231 rpm

Results yesterday (31/03/08) with the following additions:

RMW Head
Alta V2 17% Pulley
1320 Camshaft
380cc Injectors

Power: 281.1 bhp @ 7,199 rpm
Torque: 210.6 lbs ft @ 6,532 rpm

Gains

Power: 41.2 bhp
Torque: 31.7 lbs ft

These figures are preliminary because the 440cc injectors can’t go on the car until RMW can remap it which will be happening soon.

By way of comparison the standard MCS map ran:

Power: 275.1 bhp @ 6,947 rpm
Torque: 209.3 lbs ft @ 6,679 rpm

Comments

The RMW mods have given fantastic gains (118 bhp over stock!!), however, with the 380cc injectors the car is running a bit lean at the top end which was expected so both Paul and I are keen to get the 440’s fitted and the custom RMW remap installed before it goes anywhere near the track.

Dyno Graph attached.

A huge ‘thank-you’ to Paul at 1320Autos and Jan at RMW for all their advice, support and hard work. There is still more to do but they have given me fantastic gains so far for little £’s compared to some competitor packages out there, the weak dollar has helped a bit too mind you, but these results are unmatched by other M45 tuners in the UK so even the preliminary results have proved what can be achieved, namely the most powerful M45 car in the UK.

Current Mood

Over the freakin moon!!!

Other mods fitted to handle/monitor the extra power (some previously) were:

RMW Coilovers
Helix Adjustable Control Arms
RMW Oil Sump Baffle
Powerflex Bushes All Round
AP Racing Big Brake Kit
OMP Upper Strut Brace
Teflon Supercharger
OMP Lower Strut Brace
BBR GTI Ram Air Scoop
17 inch Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s
205/40/17 Yokohama Parada Spec II Tyres
ScanGuage II
Alta Gauge Pod (Oil Temp/Boost)
Racelogic Performance Box
Blessing with holy water by the local priest

Thanks... no the performance box helps me on track to hit maximum corner speeds and tell me when I'm taking the wrong lines as it overlays the lines you've taken round the track on google earth in great detail. Have a ganders here:

Very nice numbers. Just remember he can't go over the pond for awhile. We're trying to keep him here.

These cars have almost no drivetrain loss (10-12%) so if you're pushing 235 to the wheels, you're at about 255-260 to the flywheel (BHP). 281 bhp is closer to 255 whp.

Congrats though!

For whatever reason Rusty the UK market talks in BHP and our dyno converts its whp to bhp by measuring the drivetrain loss.

Big Shows car for whatever reason has always had high drivetrain loss, we have seen a low on some cars off 28 and a high off 45.

Myself and Tuls spent many a night while I was staying with him trying to work out how two cars from new could be so different, concentrating our thoughts with regard to the engine, but in reality it could be the loss in the drivetrain which is different from car to car. Why I dont know as yet.

Our grey coated early blower engine in totally stock form made 167whp 195bhp we have had 1 x 06 car make the same figures, we have seen some stock S make lows of 148-150whp (cant remember the bhp)

Hmmm....racelogic box, I like it-have not seen it advertised too much over here.

RMW They are gonna have to stay here on west coast til they tune my car, then they could go across pond.

BTW: Great numbers, keep us posted after 440 injectors , should be intoxicating numbers.
Heard they got remote tuning capability now?

Cheers... Yes the performance box has humbled many a street racer who thinks they're car is fast... the box doesn't lie, its what the car mags use when testing performance figures on manufacturer cars so it shocks some people when they realise they're car with a zorst doesn't now do 0-60 in 4 seconds

Looking forward to the tune and the injectors... will be done remotely so Jans time is safe

What kind of dyno are you using to measure drivetrain losses? I'm not aware of any why to get the exact flywheel HP unless you have an engine dyno that bolts directly to the engine. 45-50 HP worth of drivetrain losses sounds REALLY high, even if his car was an auto. I've never heard of anything more than 15 or so on a MINI.

Above is the people who developed the system, ours is an older version. I still look at the whp figures as thats what contacts the road.

I'll check out what BigShows whp figure is tomorrow, we might venture to a dynapack soon and see what we get then.

Paul, my stock MINI (besides a HAI) dyno'd 141whp. It sucks, I guess I have a "weak engine" MINI.

Get a compression check and leakdown done, we had one customer with an 05 which made good power but the leakdown sucked and it had a crack in the cyl head in No1 and the rings had lost tension in No 2.

Our leakdown on our engine was 3% 5% 7% 3% , 47k on the clock with a 6 mile old head on it.
