Posted this in the other thread, so just in case I will repost it here:
Let me get this back on track. I will preface with a few statement:
1. I have no love for M7 (well known).
2. I have no plans to buy this product. Ever.
3. I am not an engineer.
That being said, I have a few questions. I find the product intriguing, even if the price is
. My understanding is that the M7's part in the "development" of this unit is only insofar as adapting it for the Mini application, so they might not have the answers to my purely educational questions. I am not doubting the units quality, concept, or reliability as it seems it has been used successfully before. What I am curious about is the long term effect on the affected parts.
After reading the M7 sales pitch on their website, I seem to recall shift times of 200 ms. How will the clutch and trany internals hold up? Specially on the older Midlands units. Do you not need higher tolerances and better parts to accommodate things that are moving now faster. Kind of like the reason that Audi, BMW, others use the dual clutch in their sequential shifters?
Maybe someone with more expertise than me can discuss this.
P.S. This should be on topic enough.

Man...THANK YOU for posting this. I have been trying to find a company who would be able to produce a direct replacement for the paddle shifters. I had an E46 M3 with SMG and you could buy some much MUCH better looking paddles (long, sharp, aggressive looking) for around $200. What I saw on the M7 car at AMVIV looked absolutely phenomenal.
Randy (if you're reading), you and I talked a little bit about the yellow R56 (and your personal car as well...as I saw the sound system) and you thought M7 may be able to take a look to see how the OEM paddle shifters work for the R53. I would hope it's just a direct replacement and wouldn't require much work to swap out paddles, but I have no idea.
For what it's worth, your brushed paddle shifters were the best looking paddle shifters I have seen in a LONG time. I am really hoping you guys would be able to figure something out. Consider me first in line to buy a replacement set.

We did up a little video which should give you all a better idea of just how well the system works .

What is the price difference between the paddles and the stick? In other words, if you decide to go with the stick over the paddles is it a wash or more?
The box in the trunk? how big is it and could it be put flat in the boot to save the use of the trunk? Did you guys do the work to adapt it to the Mini or the manufacturer? Also who makes this?
I like the idea just not the price. At $3600 plus a day or two at $100 an hour to install this thing gets crazy expensive to "maybe" save some time at the track. I imagine based on the price that manufacturing cost's must be high. Do they have any plan to try and lower their manufacturing cost (IE: Asia) thus passing the saving on to the consumer?
Thanks,
Longboard
