What can I do to get THIS kind of exhaust note?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fuU-hQBaGM

that is an e36 M3 with straight pipes.
Is it strickly for I6, V6 and upwards? I4s can't make that kind of noise?

I do want more raw, sharp sounding exhaust on my mini.. (currently have an alta)

Please share any thoughts!

You'll never get a BMW i6 noise out of your mini without dropping in a BMW i6 engine. :p 4 cylinder engines usually sound pretty crappy when you have a "sharp" sounding exhaust IMO.

I think that M3 sounded terrible.

Maybe its just me, but I prefer to hear turbos/superchargers over the fart of exhaust.

like stated... a 4 will never sound like a 6 or a 6 like an 8 or an 8 like a 10 etc... We have a tiny engine and most exhausts enunciate the tiny sound. BMW did a good job with the stock I think.

I didn't think that the bimmer was that great sounding. I feel there are numerous aftermarket systems for our cars that make them sound great. Its a matter of how loud is acceptable to you.

Really very hard to make the Mini sound good I think. The louder you make it the more obnoxsious it sounds. Most race Minis sound horable, and are also very loud.
I agree, that Bimmer sounded bad. Maybe go for this sound... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3rl1SJbo6o&mode=related&search=

I loved how it sounded. Much akin to a raspy V8.

Mini's can't sound like that though...lack of displacement and cylinders will do that.

I think the speed of the shifts has a lot to do with it as well. He's gotta be using a sequential dogbox tranny with straightcut gears (I think you can hear it a little at 28-30 seconds in).

Listen closely,

C U T O F F Y O U R M U F F L E R S!

You will end up with 2/3 of the sound...

That M3 runs a 600 hp Judd V8. Basicly an F1 motor.

Here is his exhaust if you want to build one.

In motorcycle-speak, 'straight pipes' means no mufflers. I've heard loud MINIs (louder than mine with a Megan Racing cat-back), and I don't care for them.

That would explain why it sounded like an F1 car to me lol
