Do you get any performance gain from it? It sounds way cool by the way.

I believe I got a gain. It is hard to tell but I estimate a few horsepower. The piping is not as large in diameter as systems like Alta, but it is quite straight from front to back. Using a flashlight I can look inside the back muffler to see that it branches to the 2 tips in a Y formation. Very nice!!

Only a dyno would tell the truth but I believe it is as good as any exhaust system on the market.

It is not terribly loud so if you want noise the other Borla system would be the one to get, but mine looks cool and gets compliments. I even used a buffing wheel to shine up the muffler.

hey try that exhaust system, it has a gain of about 12 horsepower, its altas new exhaust system

http://altaminiperformance.com/produ...ory=6&model=11

the one thing i like about alta is that they know mini better than any other exhaust maker becuase they only make parts for that car whereas borla magnaflow and all these other cars all make exxhaust for other cars.

trust me go with the alta i have it on my car and i noticed a difference right away with horsepower gain.

hahahaha i have had my steroe turned down for the past month now with it!!!!!!!!!

If you like you system so much, please post some pics of your system which is mounted on your car. Did you install it yourself? Everything bolt up correctly? And did you opt for the complete turbo back?

Borla's product history reflects a tad smaller tubes than their competition, but in the end it's the unique Borla tone that customer's pay for. The slightly smaller tube may cost a couple hp along the way, but in the grand scheme of things is great overall quality worth a couple pony's?? I think so...

no, I don't work for them..

I agree, The sound seems much nicer to listen too than others. Does anyone have a drive sound bite or heavy acceleration clip?

Quick noobish question... I see people referring to "turbo-back" vs. "cat-back" exhausts all the time.

What makes the difference? Presence of a Catalytic Converter? Aftermarket Downpipe? etc...

Turbo back literally means from the turbo, on back; so it's an exhaust system from the outlet of the turbocharger all the way back to the muffler tips. While a cat back system is from the outlet of the catalytic converter to the muffler (doesn't include downpipe or mid-section). It's actually from the second cat, on back as the MINI has two cats (one is in the downpipe).

one could argue that because borla makes exhausts for so many different cars, they have more experience with exhaust systems

anyway, i really like how the borla sounds over the other exhaust systems ive heard. I originally wanted the Milltek single tip exhaust but apparently they arent going to make that one anymore... plus, i think the borla is still the best sounding exhaust for the MINI that I have come across...

Its just personal preference.

Tomita-how does it sound from the inside? also, do you have any clips while driving around, interior or exterior?

Thank you for pointing this out. I do not want to deviate from "legal". I am trying to mod it, but keep it legit.

There is a little more noise....sort of a deep drone, but not bad at all. Keep in mind that I got the quieter of the 2 Borla systems available.

Cool, thanks for answering the noob question

yeah.. I'm assuming that unless there are cats in the turbo back somewhere it would be illegal in any state that requires emissions tests.

To be honest, as the Alta downpipe has a high flow cat, it will pass the emissions sniffer in CA. The only thing it might not pass would be the visual inspection as it's an aftermarket part with no CARB approval, however, I've made similar mods to just about every car I've owned and never had a problem. Basically, if it looks like a factory piece, it usually just gets passed on the visual.
