CAI noise...NOT pssshhhhhh

I just installed my alta intake after they sent me the wrong stuff. It is a really nice feeling merging onto the Autobahn 5 in Heidelberg under hard acceleration.
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced a click noise. The noise only occurs during acceleration and will click once when you push the gas going through the gears. I am assuming it is something rubbing due to the torque movement underhood, however it only does it when moving, not a stationary high rev. I have checked my engine bay and dont see anything that it could be. ANY IDEAS?

I believe that is normal Mine does the same thing. Look at this vid.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9vhGa6jCYU

Mine also "sings" to me when I get on it. I think it is the turbo spinning. My musical mind tells me it is a sustained high "C" lol!!

Is this normal?

hmmm, I checked the vid, but didnt hear the sound in question. It is a noticeable single click only when driving, not at stand still. So itll goes like this. accelerate, clutch , PSSSSSshhhhhhhhh, on the gas... followed split second single thud, until next gear. I mean is some thing rubbing Im missing?

I just drove around the block........Even though I have an automatic, I think I hear what you hear. In non tech terms, it sounds like a small metal flap banging against metal as if it is something closing. Not a heavy metal sound, but like a cheap metal valve. Happens when on and off throttle.

Now, I think it might be the blow off valve or wastegate. Not really sure which one. Maybe someone else more savy to our turbo sytems will comment.

I know the sound you are talking it, its like a click noise when you press the accelerator. Mine went away after driving the car around for a little bit, its probably something shifting around. Try retightening the CAI box

Does the blow off valve sound cool with an automatic transmission? Does it blow off when switching scrolls in the turbo, or is it when you switch gears?

I have the auto trans and the blow off sound is definitely there and quite cool. I can't comment on if it's more muted than with a manual as I've never driven one. The main difference seems to be that with the auto you only tend to hear it when letting off the throttle, while with manuals you hear it every time you switch gears (since you pretty much have to let off). Now if you use the paddles to shift you can hear it, but when leaving the transmission in automatic mode I never hear it while switching gears.

The noise you are hearing is the result of a loose Heat Shield. I been driving mine hard for the past week and then just today noticed a clicking noise. I checked under the hood and the heat shield was loose. When I went to check how much it was moving I realized that I hadn't tightened it enough the first time because it was quite loose. I retightened it and this time made sure it wasn't going anywhere. Got in the MINI and hit the accelerator hard out of my driveway and then proceeded to drive for 15 minutes through twisties and straights. Noise was gone and it actually sounded better then from when I first had it on. Hope this helps, that is if your still having problems.

Thankyou for the replies, IT was the front air duct hitting the area behind the grill. I poked, and pulled and it doesnt do it anymore THANK GOD!!!!!!
But YES that darn heat sheild is loose too, It raddles until it warms up on real cold days

I've just installed mine and im getting the same clicking sound! It sounded like something was hitting the firewall, but ill check the front air duct. Matty125 do you have any more info on what you found was the issue?

No I dont. but open the hood and you see the air ducting wich comes from the grill into the Mass air sensor. The air duct just fits throught the area behind the grill. The beveled head is slapping against the wall when you accelerate. Its a pull push kinda thing thats why it clicks hard once, then clicks once when you let off. If this dont help you, send me a email, Ill send a pic.
