Shark Injector vs. Factory Software Update vs. ?

Would a shark injector from Turner Motorsports upgrade other aspects of my 2002 MCS ECU, or only the air-fuel maps for performance?

I'm hoping an upgrade of some kind will correct the on/off choppy feeling throttle response in my MCS, smoothing it out.

Are there other software update options that I haven't considered?

The “choppy” throttle response could be from a mechanical source instead of the ECU, but, I had the Shark and it improved drivability greatly on my 12/02 build. I had a couple of OEM update flashes that created more problems than fixed; the Shark smoothed out the herky-jerky and made accelerating in the first two gears more lively. It is true that many (myself included) have found increased performance from other tunes but the Shark’s form factor and ease of use are big pluses to be considered. And, more than A/F maps are changed.

I recommend an OEM update first, but get the update for your build date and not just the most recent release.

BTW, the Shark’s architect Jim Conforti lives in your area so you might see if Turner will provide some contact info. I’ve had conversations with him and can say he was way ahead of his time in understanding the MINI’s code.

You are going to get a thousand opinions on software. Jim Conforti is a well established and known BMW tuner. You can not go wrong with his programing. If dealer service/warratny is an issue to you, then go with a authorized Dinan dealer.

The shark has a bite

I put the Shark on to my mods when I did the whole 9 yards with my upgrades when my warranty ran out on my 03S . I have been very happy with my performance and smoothness. its very easy to install as well.

Are there other ECU upgrades that can be easily done without sending in your ECU or bringing the car to someone to tune?

It is stock, but I'm thinking of doing a 15% pulley, intake, plugs and ECU upgrade.
