Alta intake hose & TB fitment question

I had trouble with the Alta hose recently. I was trying to install it at our Tarheel Mini club mod day this past Saturday and the bottom of the tube seemed WAY to big for the throttle body flange (stock). I've never heard of anyone having a problem like that with the Alta tube & neither had anyone else at the event. I had one guy who had one of the Alta tubes on his car check it out and he said that while his had never been super tight at the TB, it was at least a moderately snug fit - whereas mine was rattling around on the TB flange with probably about 1/4 inch to spare! Needless to say I didn't put it on as even if I had tightened the clamps I didn't think it would have sealed well if at all (the top part fit my DDM intake just fine). I have the stock TB from the factory.

The length was OK, so its not like I got the automatic one by mistake (Ive got a '06 6-speed MCS). I emailed Alta tech support and they replied that they make it somewhat oversize so that it will fit larger throttle bodies, but if you clamp it down over the stock TB it should seal fine. Has anyone else had this observation? Is Alta right that I can just clamp it down and the tube should seal even though it doesn't come close to sealing w/o the clamp? I don't want to be sucking in unfiltered air through gaps in the tube if it isn't sealing right. If there are gaps after it is clamped down to the TB, would it throw any codes to at least let me know the seal isn't OK?
Thanks in advance for any responses - I've searched but couldn't find anything along these lines.

My fittment to the throttle body was just about perfect on mine. However I did have to trim one side kind of like an orange slice to make the intake tube fit properly, and seat evenly. If it's way large and doesn't seat right even after tightening the pipe clamp. I would say it was a manufacturing error and try to contact whoever the part was bought from , or alta directly.

I'll at least try to clamp it on & see how it does - I did try tightening the clamp near the end of the hose (off of the car) and it does seem like the diameter will get a pretty good amount smaller before the hose wall seems to get a little squirelly (it can only get so much smaller in diameter evenly before it kinks or something).

I had the same problem but was able to position the clamp to get a tight fit. Works fine.

REcently, i fitted the alta version 2 CAI

Is yours Version 2?

The first time i encounter that problem which there is a gap between the throttle body and the alta silicon.

After all the hard work like put the clamp almost to the end and press down the silicon and screw it.

Recommended with two persons so that the other person can hold down the silicon and you tighten it.

Hope this will help you.

I just ran into the same issue. I purchased one from a local guy who told me it fit a little odd on his. He was right. It's alot bigger at the TB. I clamped it down last night but was in a hurry. I have not driven it yet, but when I looked at it today it was loose so I took everything apart again and made sure it was tight and not going anywhere.
It's also bigger at the top, but I'm using it with a Promini intake so I can't complain about that. Also the smaller hose section is way thicker than the stock. I had to get creative to get the clamp back on.

I just tried to install the Alta inlet tube on my '06 GP and encountered the same problem with the silicone hose being too large. The ID of the hose is 1/8" to 1/4" larger at both the throttle body and the JCW intake box ends. I wrestled with it for 1 1/2 hours but still could not get it to seat well on the TB. I removed it and plan to return it to Alta.

Just clamp it down like normal, it is larger than the TB. It works fine, had mine on for around 3000 miles now. No problems what so ever.

Does the Samco offer a better fit? If so, which vendors sell them?

If you bought from Alta, did you ask them to exchange it?

Although the tube could have worked if I forced it in place with the clamps, I was not satisfied with the fit. Alta was very cooperative and agreed to authorize a return of the product.
