RMW cam...

Hi Folks, today I installed the RMW cam on my JCW 06. I am very happy, I feel the car like bigger 4 cylinder. The installation was easy and the air/fuel ratio is ~10.7-11 I can feel the acceleration is faster than before.

I have question when I start the car, it takes 2 more second than before to start is that normal?

I sometimes (but not every time) have to crank a little longer with this cam, but it always starts eventually. So I'd conclude it's normal based on a sample size of 2.

I had a different result but I think it is due to the newer 550cc injectors. My car took several seconds of cranking before it started. ( before cam and injectors were installed).

I wouldn't worry about the two extra seconds. Maybe your little beast acquired a little attitude (such as I'm bad *** don't mess with me) after the
cam.

Enjoy your ride!

Congrats on the new cam! I love mine as well. Yes, sometimes I notice a few more cranks to get going, but not very often.

If you don't mind me asking, What is the cost of the cam, and about how much power could be expected? also what other mods should be considered to get the most benefit from the cam swap?

RMW cam

Same thing here - wasn't sure if it was the cam or the plugs.

The cost of the cam is $400. I expecte 10 HP. You need to get headers. with the cam.

Today I used the car to do my business. I started the car for 10 times, it started like before without any problem, no more 2 seconds. Also I mentioned that the car is cooler than before. Before it pass the 90 Celsius in the traffic but now it stay before the 90 Celsius (194 F)

I have the Newman cam as well...But have not installed it cos apparently I need larger injectors and a tune (planning to get these from Mynes).

Luys, is your Mini tuned with the cam in? How did it perform?

The cam works fine with 380 injectors. I ran the cam for a year in my GP without any problems before I put the new head on.

This Mini has stock tune and JCW kit with Magna racing headers. It perform better acceleration, I can feel it.

There are inconsistencies in Newman camshaft build quality and their quality control is lacking. I installed a Newman cam in a 2006 with standard injectors, no aftermarket tune, 15% pulley, aftermarket intake, modified OE header & one ball, that car starts first attempt consistently, and idles hot or cold. That cam was a double inspected replacement for a faulty grind, so I would expect it to perform well. There is a small percentage of users who report idle and starting issues. FYI, the Newman camshaft is a high lift cam, be sure to check for clearance at each of the sparkplug tubes, if a sheet of paper won’t slide through the space between the lobe and tube without drag, the tube will require indexing.

Sooooo...you guys are saying that the Newman Cam will work fine with my stock injectors and tune? If this is so, I'll install it whilst waiting for the larger injectors and Remote tune....

Or should I install 380cc with the cam?

Since you are going to be working down in that area anyway, you could just do the injectors and cam at the same time. It'll save you some time later. Just a suggestion.

Put my 380's in a couple months before I was going to be able to get a Jan tune, it ran OK but I went ahead and got a JCW flash for $100.00 at the stealership so the ECU would recognise the larger injectors and it did run smoother. Just a thought if you need/want a stop gap.

What modifications do you have on your car?

FWIW, I've found that if you switch on the key to the first position and let the fuel pump go through its whole cycle and turn off (a few seconds) before turning the key to start, it starts much more consistently.

It just happen in the first day when the cam was installed, but now it starts like before. Thanks for your information.

So? Should I install the Cam Now (stock injectors/stock head/stock tune)?

Or should I just wait for the larger injectors and my custom remote tune?

Install the cam when you put the larger injectors in.

If your going to have Mynes tune your car why don't you ask them for their opinion?

Whats the logic in buying a cam from Jan to have Mike tune it

Mynes sells a cam now too... Don't you think Jan knows the best way to get power out of his own product
