Custom Tune on Factory JCW

Hey all, I have the factory installed JCW engine in my '06. My focus is mainly in the suspension/handling area, as I feel that is where the greatest improvements can be had.

That said, I feel that there may be more available power than what she makes at the moment. I don't believe the JCW tune is quite right. Why? For starters, she pings in the heat and I don't like that one bit. I think the AF ratios aren't mapped correctly, and there is probably more to it than just that.

So, I did a search and found a thread involoving a guy named Emil and a guy on the East coast named Lucky Dog or something.

I'm in Vegas. Is it worth the trip to LA to have this thing dyno tuned? Anyone out there custome tuned a factory JCW car before?

Should JCW do the work themselves as the car shouldn't ping like this from the factory with no mods?

What?

The place in MD is Luckydog Garage. They have tuned a JCW here and he is bluminiboy on NAM. I would PM him with your questions. Good luck

If its only got factory parts and its pinging, bring it to the dealer before throwing money away.

the dealer just says I'm using "bad gas" which is funny as I only use chevron or shell premium. I don't think the dealers are properly equipped yo do anything about the program...

It is well worth the 280 mile drive. Give him a call and tell him I sent you. Get the idle raised, rev limter, throttle responce, air/fuel and timing maps. You will love it. He tunes with Dimsport on a dyno.
Mario

Thanks Mario. Can you tell me who exactly "he" is? I'm assuming it's the Emil guy? Where is his shop and what is it called? Do you have a phone number?

I'd like to speak with him personally before driving there. Thanks.

Mario, what should something like this cost? I'm guessing it's some kind of time and materials deal but I have no reference. Thanks!!!

The tune is around $475 plus dyno time. Its well worth the money.

Thought i would come in and say that you will be good in the hands of Emil. Him and John from Lucky Dog both use the same software for tuning the ECUs and they coordinate with each other on things.

I would definately recommend getting the dyno tune! It will bring your JCW to life. I had it done on mine, and it's a world of difference.

i'm not sure about the pinging though. I would first look at that issue before doing anything else.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Mario! It really seems worth it based on what I've heard. I'm going to give him a call.

Thanks
