SC Port & Polish and Maintenance (Oil)

Hi all,

My 04 MCS has about 54K on the clock and based on what I've read thus far regarding SC oil, I think it would be proactive to rip it out and send it off to get taken care of.

I figured that if I'm going to pull it out, I might as well spend some dough and get it ported and polished.

I'd like to hear from people who have done this and whether or not you think it was worth the money.

I'd like to track the car as often as possible (only two times so far ) and plan on keeping it for a long, long time. I have a 15% reduction pulley, UUC exhaust, intake, GIAC ecu, colder plugs and coil.

I'm not crazy about this 100K lifespan of the SC. If cleaning it up and performing a maitenance will give it more life then I'm all for it.

Not really looking to add more power - the car is fast enough and I am comfortable with how it performs. But if P&P will make it more efficient and make it last longer, then I think I should do it.

The other alternative is just to rip it out and replace the oil myself and forget the P&P.

Bob from Steigemeier also said that he recommended changing out the SC oil every 15-20K depending on what pulley size you have on there!!!! That seems to be a little too often, no?

I also have an 05/06 take off SC sitting in my closet and on top of that I have an 06 MCS that has a pulley on it as well! I'm not too crazy about the idea of having the car overheat and THEN just slapping in the replacement SC.

Another thought is to send off the replacement SC to have the P&P done, and then send off the existing one on my 04 to get done as well and that way I wouldn't lose any driving time. Hm....so many choices...

Any comments?

Talk with Peter at M7, they sell a P&P SC.
Might be worth your trouble to start there.

Your idea with Steigemeir is a good one. I believe they do the M7 SC. Very good work. They do a lot of Mustang SC work and verious hot rod SC's.

I'm with you - I currently have just over 156k on the original SC, and don't really want to pull it off just because. I've been running a 15% reduction pulley for about 120k now. (I do have a new one ready to go on when/ if needed)

My rationale is that I'd rather do the preventitive (hopefully) maintenance on it first instead of waiting for the SC gears to get all chewed up, have the water pump fail, and then risk overheating the engine beyond repair. Seems like a relatively cheap insurance and a learning experience too.....

However, it is good to hear that someone with a reduction pulley for 120K has survived just fine. We need to hear more about these success stories as well as the failure ones...

Anybody out there whose had it done? I just wonder if the difference is noticeable....
