Please excuse the delay, Mrs. Carbonized had to sort some technical things for me but all is well now...

The goals were;
Delete rear seat and all related items
Design and build a flat deck that:
1 saves weight
2 storage space under the deck
3 can handle 200 lb load
4 no drilling of the chassis or any part of the car, use only existing fastening points
5 does not go flying around the car in case of rear end collision
6 do not look like 70’s ******** van!
#1: 48lb 8oz OUT. 10 lb 11oz IN = 37lb 13oz weight reduction
#2 more than enough space in rear compartment to store tire tools, jumper cables etc. space for battery relocation behind pass. Seat and a big water/meth reservoir behind driver‘s. (fwd compartment)
#3 I just moved my daughter to college, the car was stuffed from pass. foot well to rear window, including one OEM wheel/tire (I don’t run run flats). No problem.
#4 Only two holes through the original seat cushion clips, (nothing that has to be reversed, welded back, filled etc)
#5 the bi-fold opening should not only prevent the deck to arm driver and pass., but also the content of the compartments to reach them.
#6 judge for yourself

Thank you all for the kind words, thank you Sid for inviting this post on Misfitoy blog, and thank you El greton for offering to help with posting pics.
The rear seat delete is part of a long term project that will lead to a rear diffuser through battery box delete and straight trought exhaust. (think Ferrari 360). As always any body can use/ copy anything of mine, I would not publish otherwise I can help with design and tech if you are serious about it. Just a word of warning: Hell is hot .

Man I wish I could afford your work. This stuff is mind-blowing. And has to be the best looking, functioning, craftsmanship I have ever seen, especially put into a Mini.

P.S. how hard is it to learn the CF trade and how much money is involved in setting up a little "shed" to do this in? Is it close to doing fiberglass work? I know there is vaccuming involved, but what else? Thanks alot, Chris.

I start with napkin and pen, go to the store get some beer, get the napkin, beer, and myself in my 24 x 12 shed and proceed to the jigsaw and doorskin type plywood. Lots of time refining fit and fonction and its time for another trip to the beer store. Crank up the music and Vacuum bag a big plate of carbon/foam sandwich. More thinking, details details details, find or make hardware: hinges, latches, locators, zuss fasteners etc.. Sleep the beer off . Fuss a lot with assembling and finishing, Beer and music help , Instal and find out you didn't think of this or that consol yourself with one more beer and fix the problem. Repeat as necessary. Finaly spray clear urethane and wet sand, and spray and wet sand again and again+ trip to the store.
As for working with CF, It does not seem any harder than fiber glass but then again, been messing with the stuff for 31 years
Told you it was hot in this kitchen
