New Clutch - Exedy or Clutchmaster

I need a new clutch soon as my OEM has been on its way out for a while and now feels like its made out of mashed potato!

While the gearbox is out I intend to fit a Quafe LSD, flywheel and clutch. Its not a job I want to repeat any time soon so I really want to know what clutch and flywheel will be best.

The choices seem to be the Exedy 'Hype single' flywheel and clutch combo for £879+vat(17.5%), or one of the Clutchmaster setups.

I dont know which setup would be similar to the Exedy setup.

I use my car for daily driving, track days and drag racing. I get 225 miles from a full tank when doing daily driving, so I do tend ot put my foot down a bit.

It would be nice if the clutch will work with my existing 220-240bhp, and in the future with a GTT turbo or a RMW stroker/rotrex kit without having to change the clutch again.

So to sum up, I want the moon on a stick. Or to have my cake and eat it.

All advice is gratefully received.

Has anyone had experience of both setups?

I was recommended the fx300 clutchmaster because of the same possible setup and similar daily driving conditions. My current setup is with RMW head and header. So my next install will be the clutch, flyweel and quafe and possibly Rotrex down the line.

Sorry, I don't have the clutchmaster. I have heard good things about it, though.

I have the Exedy Hyper 3 clutch/flywheel. It significantly outperforms the former rig I had built around a Fidanza flywheel (which ultimately self-destructed after 35,000 miles or so).

The Exedy is so beautifully made, it's almost hard to hide it in the driveline.

The Exedy combo is 26 lbs. lighter than the oem. The difference in response is amazing. It's also quieter than the Fidanza, as it doesn't rattle at traffic lights (a racket which didn't impress my wife).

Clutch pedal effort is a bit heavier. I don't notice it, but if someone else drives the car, they usually comment on it.

I've also heard the Clutchmaster is the setup you want on the MINI. Personally, I don't have experience with either.

I am starting to lean towards the Clutchmaster FX400 at the moment. Looks like a street clutch that should be able to cope with a possible 400bhp, is I went nuts with the modding.

I would get the Clutchmaster flywheel, just to make sure its a matching system that works together.

now I just need to decide 4 or 6 paddle FX400!

Hey if you get a hold of Jan his kits come with the clutch/flywheel/and all the accessories...throw out bearing tools, etc... And he has the lowest prices I checked.

Now if you are going to go with the FX400...why not the FX600 twin street clutch? That is my number one choice if you are going to have that much power...but again talk to Jan because he can advise you on which clutch will work out best for you...

Fidanza is OK. Also use a non sprung hub clutch.
