The R56 must have a intake air silencer(muffler) piped into the IC air flow, the Madness piece must replace/delete it.

I'm thinking it replaces number 13 in this pic...

...but this pic shows number 1 as the intake muffler, which I believe is the air box...

Do you think there is any performance to be had?

While not knowing that much about the R56 yet, and depending on where the Madness piece fits in, it's hard to say.
It looks like you have an R56, look around under the hood and see if there is something that can be replaced and will use a bracket like the one in the pic you posted.
If you find it, that Madness piece can be made very easily.

I just looked under my hood, and I would guess it replaces part # 3 , but I am not 100% sure.

I find it strange that Madness would not give any description as to what it does.

I thought the same thing, but there is only one place where it will fit and bolt up.

Wow. 5 yrs later onthis thread as i'm researching also, but yeah that part replaces #3 in your diagram.
It looks like alot people are confused by the turbo engine. It took me awhile but I think I finally figured it out.

I replaced mine with a piece of 2" aluminzed pipe I picked up at advanced auto parts... I havn't really noticed any change in the sound of turbo volume though.... I'll replace both turbo pipes with after market ones when I get around to replacing the intercooler.... I believe the Idea is that you can get more volume through your intercooler and then into your intake manifold because there is less expansion under load.

We replaced ours with minimania's intercooler muffler delete. i noticed our turbo sounds got louder, but i'm not 100% sold that I'm going to keep it in there. It's hard to explain, but i might put the original muffler back in there. It is louder... just for me. Oh we did the K&N typhoon intake 1st, we liked it alot, I can hear the turbo and sounded good, just not as loud as I would have liked... so then i did this intercooler muff delete, and yes its louder now, i can hear turbo alot easier now, so i "should" be what i wanted, just i'm not sure yet if i like it enough to keep it in there. I need more time driving it and seeing if it will grow on me or not..

DIY Intercooler muffler delete Pic

So not a permeant mod... but I was board and I figured it would be no different from the delete pipe they sell on minimotors.com for $84 except I only spent $12 on the pipe and $5 for a metal cutting blade on my miter saw. When ever I upgrade the intercooler I will probably roll with hard pipes on the hot and cold sides instead of the silicone ones that are out there... seems like it would be less susceptible to expansion and contraction than the silicone. I also noticed the factory silicone is extremely flimsy... so any aftermarket upgrade is probably a legit mod.

you would be replacing part number 3. its supposed to add like 5 hp by replacing it cause i guess the muffler is very restrictive.

Ya Jordan... when I pulled it out and looked inside the muffler there were tiny little holes all over the mid section where it gets fat... I'm sure it slows the flow down massively. The M7 hot side pipe is all silicone.. and is probably much better than what I've got going on... I'm torn on wether to get a one piece silicone pipe or a hard pipe with silicone attachments... less flex with a hard pipe, but a silicone pipe has no transitions so a smoother flow of air. what do you think?

i have the exact part and noticed nothing at all except for a bit more of a hiss from the turbo when i had the windows down in the underground car park. if you must have that part just do the DIY mod or get the cheapest one you can find.

Can't see why anyone would bother buying an expensive replacement piece from some vendor over just using a piece of 2" aluminum pipe and clamping it in there. It's not in a place where you can see it and the big dollar solution has no real improvements over the DIY solution for a fraction of the cost. Add in some high heat black paint and call it a day.

When I get my new FMIC, I'm going the DIY route on this.

If you guys are going to go the DIY way... I must warn you... undoing the bolt on part 3 in the picture was a major pain in the you know what... I will say when I finally got I went through the top... If you have access to a lift it may be easier to get of from the bottom. I believe it was a 25 torx with a socket wrench and extension that finally got it off. Going back in was easy! also the silicone fastener clamps are seated in the silicone so don't expect them to move around or rotate... may also want to get some soppy water to loosen up the silicone where it attaches to part three.... both on the top and bottom. If anyone has questions I'll try my best to remember what I did... also there is another forum about this somewhere else in NAM. Good luck!

I used a piece of scrap 2" exhaust pipe to make mine out of, after measure the inner diameter of both pieces the exhaust pipe has right at 11% more diameter than the stock piece.

As for the bolt.... I cut the plastic arm going from the factory piece, removed it then I had plenty of room to get the bolt out and the rest of the plastic arm off..... besides I have no intention of putting the more restrictive stock piece back on.
