A Bonehead Move -- Do not emulate

On the road for three hours around dusk yesterday, and I was so plastered with bugs that the very first thing on the agenda this morning, even before coffee, was a good washing.

So, I backed SHADOWFAX out into the driveway and pulled up all of the wipers to a vertical position, like I always do. Gathered the hose, buckets, microfibers, etc. at the ready; then, I got the idea that I probably ought to use the spray nozzle to blast the bug guts out of the radiator fins, so I pop the bonnet latch, start to lift it, and...oops! (Oh yeah, you can't lift the bonnet with the wipers up! )

Fortunately, I was lifting slowly so I only caused a slight scratch in the paint right on the edge of the bonnet on the passenger side. My PW touch up paint disguised it quite nicely. Sure made me feel stupid though. I'm glad it was really early and no one else was up and watching...

I did the same thing once a few months back. God bless touch-up paint!

Bah.. it's pepper white.. just a flesh wound.. I'm sure it's not even noticible. Someone opened up a door into my freshly waxed PW paint today and put a nice scuff.. a little McGuires XT took it right out.

Yeah, you're right...but I've got a bad case of OCMD and can't stand even the slightest imperfections--even if I'm the only one who knows about them.

Put a little Hydro on it, it'll be fine (works like a band-aid, no?)

mineartg, it's interesting that you named your MINI Shadowfax, that was one of my favorite groups from the late 70's, early 80's.........

I've done it as well. Hurts the pride more than the car.

hurt pride is the least of your worries...

This may be sacroligeous..

But I think all cars (especially 4x4 trucks) should be sold with one dent and one primer spot. Then new owners wouldn't get bent out of shape over the first ding!

I agree! Can't stand the thought of getting my first one. I'm so careful - almost to the point of not really enjoying driving it because something might happen to my "perfect" finish. I think I'll enjoy the car more when some of the "new" wears off. At least I hope I don't keep up this level of intensity about it.
