Is my wash mitt gone forever???

Well, after having about a zillion lovebugs on the front of the MINI this weekend, the car needed a wash. Here's the prob. - I can't get the dried body parts of the bugs off the mitt...is it ruined????? I've tried using a comb. The mitt is completely clean, but these things are stuck to it. Any suggestions??? Will I need a new one or just spend about 2 hrs removing the stuff by hand?

Thanks guys...

You definitely want to get the bug parts off--they are all potentials for scratching your paint. Have you tried soaking them in a bucket of warm water over night with some washing solution?? Maybe even something like laundry soap with a lot of surfactants that might help loosen the parts.

Otherwise, relegate this mitt to your wheels, and get a new mitt. The money you've lost is a fraction of what it would cost to repaint or fix any potential scratches or gouges caused by these bugs!

Richard,

Thanks for the reply!!! I definitely do not want my paint affected in any way by these bugs...and I could only imagine what the potential damage would be! I will soak it over night since I haven't tried that; however, I think I'll end up needing a new mitt as there are sooooo many parts on there it will be more painful to remove than buy something new.

Thanks again

Hood bugs.

You need a dish scrubby and a bottle of "Witch Hazel"
from the drug store. Apply in great amount to the scrubby and the bugs will be removed without any damage to the paint. Then, throw the scrubby away.
Every trip to Florida from up north, requires this solution.

Ken - it's a she and I sorta meant for the title of the thread to be funny. I knew everyone would get a different idea

Frisco - thanks for the advice; however, my dad tried the dish scrubby technique on his brand new Mercedes and had pretty deep swirls all over!!! He is still looking for a good detailer in the Orlando area to take care of the prob. as wax only minimizes the look of it. Oh and the car is black Needless to say, my mom was not too happy about his new "washing technique..."

Can you not toss a wash mitt in the washing machine? Never tried it but I figured you could

Wow!

I know this post does NOT call for taking a DISH SCRUBBER to the paint of a car?!?!?! This is the DETAILING forum!! Who are you?

toilets.
