Best place to get Meguiars Pads and M80 speed glaze
I bought Octane guys dvd a while ago and now I am going to finally get a PC and polish our cars.
Where is the best place to get the W8006 yellow pad and M80 speed glaze online. I remember Octane guy saying the pad was aroune $9 but on Meguiars web site they are $12.50.
Also as far as using the W8006 with a porter cable polisher. Do I need anything special to attach the pad? Are they velcro attach and does that attachment come with the porter cable polisher?
Thanks,
k

Best place is at Richard's shop, https://www.showcardetailing.com/eshop/default.asp. If you get the PC from him it will also come with the velcro backing plate and PC guard.

You're going to want several W8006 pads. The foam pads vary in price. The prices on the Meguiars.com website are retail prices. You can get them for less if you buy a quantity of them, like 6 at a time. You will need one pad for each chemical. You will also want one for applying a wax.
I would recommend starting with atleast the following
2 W8006 pads
1 W9006 pad for applying wax
I stock M80 in quarts and gallons at my shop and of course like UsCoops said I ship.
Yes you need a velcro backing plate. And like UsCoops kindly mentioned, I've got a combo kit that includes my exclusive PC Guard that makes using the PC on your MINI even safer along with a flexible velcro backing plate and w8006 foam polishing pad.

Choose FedEx Ground (for commercial delivery) for the least expensive shipping method, or FedEx Residential (for home delivery).
Thank you!!!

While I know others will disagree with me, I wouldn't use it with M80. The pad density is similar to the Lake Country or the Prima pads such that you can use it--but remember it's a screw on pad--so to change pads you will need use a tool. And you will change pads with using the PC.
FWIW, while my video shows you how to use the Meguiar's M80 and Meguiar's polishing pads, you can get similar results using the Prima system--but the techniques are substantially different.
The polisher is designed for wood working, not automobile polishing.

So after watching your DVD I've learned quite a bit and thinking that a PC is the way to go!

Everything you learn in the DVD is relevant, regardless of system (Meguiars or Prima for example). However each system has it's own pad recommendations to chemicals.
Meguiar's has pretty much one foam pad--the W8006 pad for polishing out swirls. It's pretty soft and to make it work, you have to apply 15 to 20 pounds of pressure on the pad to make it remove swirls. You also only have a few practical polish choices--M80 or M83. M80 will solve 80 to 90% of the swirl problems with just the W8006 pad and that polish.
Prima uses the Lake Country pads. For polishing you've got more choices. A yellow pad for cutting and removing a lot of paint, an orange pad, a white pad, and a black pad. Each of those 4 pads represents a different level of aggressiveness. For Prima, the similar equivalent to M80 is Swirl. The orange or the white pad will probably work for the majority of situations. Since I always choose the least aggressive first, I would start with the white pad before deciding I needed the orange pad.
The main difference between the Meguiar's and Prima systems are pad pressure. With Prima, it's all about letting the PC pad spin as fast as possible and using that spinning motion to remove the swirls. So you always use a light touch against the paint. If you tried to apply 15 to 20 pounds of pressure, the pad would stop spinning and would just vibrate and it wouldn't be effective at all.
In the Meguiar's system, it's more about the vibration and less of the spinning. The spinning is still important but that's more of a check to ensure you aren't applying excessive pressure by pressing too hard.
So that's the primary difference. You can still use the same arm speed, same polishing speeds, and techniques as the video shows.
Hope that helps.

Richard,
So after watching your DVD I've learned quite a bit and thinking that a PC is the way to go!
You mentioned that I could get similar results using Prima system but the techniques would be different. Since I'm using Prima products and decide to get the PC setup what would I do differently?

20 pounds
I checked out what 20 pounds of pressure feels like by pressing down on the bathroom scale. Not much pushing down at all to bring it up to 20.
Tomorrow, I'll be using my PC and M80 for the first time, using the W8006 pad. My only hope is that it will be a one step process and I won't have to follow up with another finer abrassive.

I assume you did this by pressing down on the PC with the foam pad between your hand and the scale??? LOL. Cause it's different when applying that pressure on the PC.
Good luck and report back!
