[Sat, Sept 23] Philly Cheesesteak and Helix Run

I've been on the horn with Eric Savage from Helix13 in Center City Philly, and he'd love to do a joint event with us and Philly Mini.

Here's the game plan thus far - a weekend after the MITS stuff (probably Saturday, September 9.

Using a predetermined route suggested by Eric, mosey on up to Philly (via some twisties) on Saturday morning, do some dyno pulls and maybe some light mods and also do a really special thing where you can get photographs of you and your MINI from Dave of High-Res Imaging where he'll have a black backdrop and the opportunity to make your car look really well .. SPECTACULAR!

So if I could please get a list of interested users so we can start getting this in order.

Alas, I'd do it but that weekend is our office move. Great idea though!

That sounds like fun! Once I unpack the calender, I will see if I am working! Now I just have to figure out which box I put the calender.....

I'm 70/30 leaning towards no. I'm available, but I'm not very fond of cheesesteaks and I'll be far too tempted to do some more modding/dyno stuff and I need to be saving my booty for the baby.

Sounds like it could be fun and I like cheesesteaks, but Morgan doesn't have her field hockey schedule yet so I'm not sure if I already have a commitment for that day/weekend. So for now I'm a maybe/couldbe/notsure/we'll have to see.

I would love for trying to maybe push out one weekend more past MTTS so we don't end up with BIG EVENT BURNOUT and a bunch of folks don't come. I think this is a neat event idea and HELIX was a big supporter of DCMM during the Dragon. I will try to come whatever the date.

I will try and motor down from NYC. Alas I can't be at the MTTS even though I'm registered, I'll be in Key West!

I agree with Jen, it is a little too close to another big event. I love the idea though and would be interested in coming if it were a bit later in September or early October.

Pushing it back a bit would be a good idea. Name the Day and time and I'll be there.

I understand Eric will trade labor for Poptarts.

Geno's or Pat's?

it may be good for a "fall run" to see the foliage! Late September/early October?

There are actually at least two falls runs in the works. Dates are TBD. And at least one will be during leaf seaons in the Cumberland MD area

Geno's

I retract suggesting Geno's for cheese steaks. Geno's recently set a new policy and posted a sign:

"This is AMERICA ... WHEN ORDERING SPEAK ENGLISH."

It appears October fits in better for most people's schedules so I'll get on the phone with Eric and see what I can configure for some dates.

Another great nationally syndicated story involving Philly. We have done Philly Blasphemy and switched allegances (you are either Pat's or Geno's from birth) to Pat's King of Steaks since that stupid move. I like to order in Swedish.

October would be a great month for us: far enough away so that the calander is empty. How is Saturday the 7th? Here's what I suggest: An early morning banzai up I95 to Helix, where we will be waiting with coffee and heart-healthy donuts. Then the Washington folks, and any PhillyMINIers that happen to be there and want to, embark on an abbreviated MINICup3: a mobile scavenger hunt around some of the more interesting streets of Philly. This is not a race (although the first ones with all of the answers back win prizes). When I say abbreviated I mean that you probably don't want to spend the whole day driving, so the event would be about 1 hr. of driving. When all return, we'll have a bar-b-cue here at helix where we can bench race and exchange lies about our MINIs.

I'd rather not do installations other hard work that day. Flippin' burgers is about the most I want to do. If somebody is desperate, I'll pull out the old wrenches, but let's concentrate on fun. Please don't hesitate to call if you want to help organize, or call the Krutster. Please also leave feedback on the date...
