And a message from the DCMM President:
Ok, here's the scoop. I've been donating time and goods to a local moving company which is trucking relief items down to a town in LA, that has taken in 10,000 storm victims.
The moving co., Von Paris in Arnold, MD, has been collecting goods pratically since the storm moved out of LA. They're getting tons of donations, which is excellent. I've been passing out flyers to spread the word for them.
What they really need are corporate sponsors for each truckload, which costs them $4,000 each to send down there. The $4,000 cost is being absorbed by Von Paris itself, and they plan on sending a truck down every week or 2 for the next 90 days. I've been trying desperately to find them sponsorship for just one truckload. So far, I haven't been successful.
This is what I'd like to propose. Instead of bringing things to donate, I'd like to pass the hat. I'm not trying to get DCMM to underwrite an expense of 4 grand. I just thought that anyone who attends might want to donate to the cause, so to speak. I will make a donation bucket, that will be entirely anonymous, so if you're strapped and can't afford much, there will no embarassment.
There is one catch, however. Your donation will be NON tax deductable. Von Paris is a middle man business who has the means to deliver these goods. They are a regular business, not a charity. That is why I am begging any member who attends the BBQ, to donate what ever they can, regardless of the tax situation. Remember, Von Paris is absorbing the 4 thousand it costs to send each truck. Even if we raise just a few hundred, it'd be a help.
I know this is a lot to ask as I'm sure everyone has contributed to the hurricane relief in some way. I'm just asking for a little bit more.
I thank you all in advance..
Katie

Hope to see you there!

-Paul!
PS - Thanks to Jen for writing up a great BBQ event notice!

I have been using Von Paris for the warehousing of the hotel's new furniture for the past year out in their Savage MD plant. Glad to hear they are getting involved in this effort.

I'll be there with the misses. I'll starve her so she's hungry... That's also a warning to anyone between her and the food.

OK, important question for the organizers. This is an outside event, right? If so, are dogs allowed? (leashed, of course)

The reason I ask... I have promised to help a friend out by dogsitting for her while she attends her nephew's wedding in southern VA. The wedding is on that same day (next Saturday the 24th).

I want to come to the BBQ, but I don't want to leave the dog home all afternoon. Ordinarily it wouldn't be a problem (he is very well behaved indoors and wouldn't do any harm), but since I am taking care of him for the day, I'd feel pretty bad about leaving him at home and going off without him!

Please let me know if this would be OK. As I said above, he'd be leashed, and I'd also bring a tie-out so that he could be tied to a stake or tree with some room to run around (provided it wasn't too close to the food or other people to make them uncomfortable!). Hopefully there's some grassy areas he could be tied out though (I don't know, never been to Tate).

He's about 55 pounds, and a mix. Beautifully natured, loves to play, loves attention.

DOGS are good. Every MINI owner should have a dog

I know this didn't help you but I couldn't resist

I'd bring a chow but he'd want to drive and I hate it when he does that ... so domineering and can't keep his paw of the gas!

.
I don't see why dogs would not be allowed. There are some grassy areas around the dealership - although not right where we will be staged. I think that last year's BBQ event at Tate had a couple of dogs in attendance.

Attendees need to post what they are bringing, so we don't have 10 bags of chips or whatever and nothing else, k ?. Would someone like to bring just paper goods? Someone else could bring just drinks.
I'll have an hors d'oevre kinda thing, but if necessary I can bring burgers or whatever is needed. I have a very few hot dog buns and a pckg. of hot dogs from Labor Day...don't worry, I froze them.
Let's keep an eye on the weather as well. I don't think Tate sales wants us BBQing right in the showroom if it rains . Barring a total downpour (tho' we need the rain), we can keep the grills dry under my lil tent thingy.
We need a bigger crowd...I can't eat all of Sally's cookies myself, tho' I could try... *oink*

Maybe some gifts left for the MA's in their favorite grassy napping spots.
