July 23 MINI Cookout-Pot Luck, Alexandria

I am having a cookout for all my friends and friends soon to be that drive MINI's. Though I'm a DCMM member, this is a personal function and ALL MINI folk are welcome.

It'll be Saturday, July 23rd at 3453 Little Hunting Creek Drive in Alexandria VA. It's about a mile from Mt Vernon. I'm thinking starting around 2 p.m. and running till... Well the next days Sunday so who cares till when? Till the last person leaves.

I want my neighbors who laugh at my compulsive car washing to see that I'm not the only MINI nut out there.

No rain date needed as I've got a nice covered porch and rec room so we need not fear the weather.

I'll be doing burgers, dogs, and Brats on the grill and have bread and condiments. I'll ask folks to bring a dish to fill in from there.

I'll edit this as I plan further, but I expect for fun:
both the new and classic Italian Job movies to be screening inside, shooting a little pool,
Having a Dragon pictures slideshow running,
maybe swapping Dragon pics too? bring your CD and take one of mine?
and hopefully a MINI cooper slot car set up,
and whateve else I or you dream up 'tween no and then.

We can also have a car wash party out front like was planned last month-ish. We can probably get 6 MINIs in the driveway at a time. If you're nice I'll even let you try my Mr. Clean autodry car wash ;-) No well water!

Please reply here or email me so I can get a approximate head count. I like bratwurst but don't want to eat them for a month.

Mark Matarella

If someone wants to brainstorm a drive in the area... Else, while it's not challenging or spirited the drive down the GW parkway from Oldtown Alexandria is very pretty.

I think a cavalcade of MINI's through Old Town would be great.

Be a pleasure to see you all...

... there's been a thread over on the Mid Atlantic forum about trying to do a DC Pulley Party. They have a number, maybe enough, to make it happen. But the location fell through.

I've offered to host that in my garage, the same day as the cookout if possible. Thought it would be quite a MINI 'carnival' .

Will advise if it happens, if it's the same day, and if slots are open.

Love a good Cookout!

It's on my calendar! My husband and I plan on coming. It'll be good to hang out with people who wash their MINIs as much as I do!! In fact, it rained on her yesterday, so I'm going to wash her again today...last wash date, 6/21...it's a sickness!!

Allright!

We're gathering momentum  Have to let you all know the pulley party won't be joing us however. They needed to stick to a earlier date.

Looking forward to seeing and or meeting everyone!

Mark.

That's right!

I was just trying to go for the full blown 'MINI carnival' atmosphere

But I've got a few tricks up my sleeve for our 'theme'. One of which is my MINI dealer flag will be here by then. Just to make it easy to find the house.

I may try to rig it right below the Amercian Flag for our parades too. If I feel my car mounted flag pole can be that big and sturdy.

Directions!

Rather than clutter things up too badly here, I've put the directions and some maps on a web page. You'll find this at...

You can count me in for this. Just curious, but what is the parking situation going to be?

Parking shouldn't be a issue

Great!

Well, it's a 'subdivision' of ranchers. There's ample on the street parking all up and down the street. I can get 6 in the driveway, and at least 3 on the street directly in front of my house. And if it's dry we can use the front yard too. In fact if it's dry I think it'd be funny to park 10 or so in the yard to and get a pic of my yard covered in MINIs. I don't think we'll have a problem.

GW Parkway is a nice drive but to find parking in Oldtown Alexandria is a little hectic there ... Anyway, post us some pix afterward, ok

? Nobody should need to park in Oldtown ?

IF a drive is organized too, it was being considered to gather perhaps at the marina just north of town and proceed from there. But it may be to tough to try to keep a gang together for a pre party 'parade' in Oldtown

In any case, just to be clear, the party is not in Oldtown and parking at the party will be plentiful.

Hey, wait a sec. It says you're in California... Were you considering driving that far for a cookout! THAT'S MOTORING

Great!

Glad you'll be able to join in! I REALLY like having a 'gang' over and don't do it enough. Which is a shame, cause I'm finally living somewhere where it's easy to do...

We'll probably be there but MINI-less as we'll be coming from meeting with some family before hand (so I might need several stiff drinks on arrival!).

If it's ok Mark, while we'll be MINI-less we probably won't be Joe-less... You don't mind if the dog comes too do you?

I didn't see any kind of RSVP requirement on the first post, but just to be clear, I plan on coming to this! Don't know what I'll bring for the pot luck though... I'm no cook. Maybe I'll bring a dessert of some kind.

I can bring the "Honda S2000/MINI Dragon chase footage" DVD too.
