Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy at VIR / Take 2

Phil Wicks has informed me that due to the overwhelming positive response from the event held this past July 21 at VIR, there is a chance he may be able secure another date at VIR, THIS YEAR -- either in October or November. It would again be a Monday event. The feedback from the last event has been extremely positive, especially pertaining to the Solo I and Time Trials portion of the event. He indicates that everyone who participated in those segments enjoyed them immensely, and they are now finding them to be a very popular component of all their Driving Academy events across the nation.

As there would be no sponsor for this additional event, as there was in July, they would only be able to offer the discount price of $225 to early registrants and returning students, with all others being charged $300. Keep in mind that this additional event will not preclude Phil from bringing a bigger (2-day) event to VIR next year.

So now for the question….We are trying to gauge interest in this fall ’08 event, so please indicate here if you’d be interested in attending. The results of this survey will have a lot to do with whether or not Phil continues his discussions with the folks at VIR, and seeks to lock in a date this fall.

Awesome...

But..... will he be considered coming to Summit Point in the future? This might draw more attention from this area.

As my father and I (Cooper & MCS) weren't able to attend the last VIR event due to scheduling conflicts, we would very much be interested in an October of November date!

Summit Point is out for Phil, for now and forever. He had a very bad experience there in the past when they canceled one of his Driving Academy events at the very last minute. I believe it was tied in the with Jeff 500 which was canceled that year for lack of participation. At least, I think it was the canceled Jeff 500, if memory serves me well.

In any case, he doesn't have an exact date yet for VIR, but I'll post it as soon as he seals the deal.

Hopefully, it will be sometimes during school winter break.

I'd absolutely go to Summit Point (on the Shenandoah circuit) -- too bad it's not an option.....though I'm sure I'd feel the same as Phil.

Call me about 75% in for another VIR this year.

FYI - For anyone else considering a day at Summit Point, I spoke to a guy last week who is an instructor there for BMW and Audi events. He told me they did some work on the full circuit this spring (or summer?) and it didn't hold, so the track has some rough areas (he actually said dangerous). He said he recommends taking a pass on Summit Point events until they fix the track, UNLESS it's on the Shenandoah circuit because that's in good shape.

Someone also mentioned that there's a new track in New Jersey that is supposed to be nice and maybe closer than VIR from DC. Anybody know more about this track in NJ?

Looks like New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville is only 3 hours and 16 minutes away according to Google which in MINI time = 2 hours 30 minutes

I just paid mine the other day.

I am very interested, but I don't think I should. It all depends on the bank account.
