Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy at VIR / Take 2
Just received an email from Phil Wicks,
"We have just added another date to the 2008 schedule -- Monday, November 10, 2008 at Virginia International Raceway."
So now I need to figure if I can take the time off and if I will have the extra money for the event
O I soooo want to go

I really want to go, but I've burned alot of my leave this summer. I'm trying to save whats left for a trip out of the country.
(Besides, I might have to save for a new hobby *cough...maxi....cough*)

But I will try my best to be there.

Btw, what is your plan on labor day?.
I mailed my registration this afternoon and signed up for the blue group, same as last event (some track experience, but less than expert). I believe the red group is pretty much for dedicated track cars, or those with a bunch of horsepower mods. If you remember the red group from last time, those guys are scary fast. My justacooper would be nothing but a dangerous and inappropriate obstruction to the guys in that class. Relative top speeds at the end of the straight... me (88), them (120+).
I spoke with Phil Wicks this morning and he was really looking forward to this event, and emphasized that we'll all have significantly more track time. FWIW, he mentioned that he'll be out of the office for the next couple of weeks on vacation, so don't panic if you don't get anybody to answer the phone. Just mail in your registration and they'll deal with it when they return. They have arranged for someone to pick up the mail so it won't get lost.

Excellent! Can't wait!
I think I'll stay at the Sleep Inn this time (where the instructors stayed last time). Much closer to the track, more convenient for tech inspection, and it might be cheaper than the HI Express.
Of course, staying at the Sleep Inn would preclude being able to say that we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. Wonder how that might affect our lap times?

Some good news... according to an email from Phil Wicks earlier today, if you get your registrations in before October 20th, it will be only $250 per person. Each participant has to pay.
Hope this helps!
We have to plan accordingly so that most, if not all, stay at the same place.

FWIW I really liked the Best Western Windsor Inn & Suites. It's only about a half mile from the Sleep Inn plus it's a new hotel. I had a big room w/ mini fridge, microwave, etc, for better rate than I could find at the Sleep Inn or Holiday Inn Express.

Not trying to change your mind, just sharing an interesting (to me anyway) fact.
Per Ed's point, all the other cars were blowing by us. The instructors were allowed to pass during the course too. This was mildly terrifying.
I am in - but it should be a secret until Monday when offficially I will receive it as a B-day present ...
I haven't decided where to stay, yet. The HI was OK (near to the Steak House.. which I am planning to visit again) but I can go for a cheaper place as I probably need a new set of tires before the track day... Who knows maybe my B-day's present includes a seet of tire, too
