[Sun, May 18th] MINIs BY THE BAY V

MINIs by the Bay will be held on Sunday, May 18th, Rain or Shine!
  • Meet time is 9:00 - 9:30am
  • Drivers meeting is 9:30am. The final route sheets will be distributed at this time.
  • Departure is 9:45am SHARP! This means the lead car leaves the lot at 9:45am.
  • Fast pit stop (please) at about 1 hour
  • Run time to food is about 2 hours
  • Plan on 1.5 hours for the food break (est. arrival time is 11:45am)
  • Run time back should be about 90 minutes, and we end at Rita's in Edgewater around 3pm

Where to meet:

Chik Fil A parking lot in Bowie, at the entrance to Bowie Baysox Stadium
16503 Ball Park Road, Bowie, MD 20716

For your convenience there is a gas station with snacks, coffee and a bathroom adjacent to the parking lot.

Where the 1st half of the run ends and we'll eat lunch/brunch:

http://www.chesapeakebeachresortspa.com/dining.html

Where the 2nd half of the run ends and we'll have ice cream:

Rita's. 120 Mayo Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. 410-956-7444

New Information

Although I've done my best to eliminate them there are lots of intersections, and many of these roads are tight and twisty with no safe places to regroup. Depending on the number of participants, you can rest assured that we will get separated at various points along the route. We will regroup at the first opportunity.

If you lose sight of the car in front of you, just follow the route sheet and you'll be fine! Trust the sheet. It is as accurate as I can make it. Follow the directions and you'll catch up to the rest of the group at the first chance we have to safely pull over to wait for you.

We will end the first half of the run in Chesapeake Beach, and there are two good restaurant choices there with a big enough parking lot to handle our MINIs... Smokey Joe's (last year's choice) and the Rod 'N Reel. And of course we'll end the second half of the run with ice cream at Rita's in Edgewater on Mayo Rd.

Please RSVP in Post #2 so we'll know how many of you can join us!

Y'all must have it in for me. Everything's scheduled weekends of other functions. This is in conflict with the Carlisle Import show. Guess I'll see you all sometime in the fall.

From what I heard, Sat seems to be the best day to go to Calisle.

Car show on Sat, MINIs by the Bay on Sun. Then you won't miss anything.

What a fun weekend!!!.

Well, I've been going to Carlisle for many years before the new MINIs came along and I'd have to say while Sat has the most people, it takes more than a day to do it for me. I'll be there Fri-Sun...

Quick note, the photo attributed to me above is actually from JavaGirl61. The link to the album it's from is here.

Have fun with the run! I'll be in California for the entire month.

I vote the Rod & Reel - that's old-style Chesapeake Beach! Plus, they have a huge parking lot.

Yep! And it's the SAME lot as for Smokey Joe's The restaurant entrances are literally side by side with the same front sidewalk

If we get there early enough, I hear that the Rod & Reel has an awesome Sunday brunch buffet

Early enough means by 11:30 at the latest, as they tend to run out of the good stuff later on We can make this work if enough of you want it!

Wonderful news! I know you'll be glad to get back on the road and it will be great to have you and Brandy on the run. Take a peek at the two restaurants in post #15... vote for your favorite! I bet we'll have folks going to BOTH places

yea man, havent seen you since that meet in bowie. good stuff.

After looking at Smokey Joe's Menu, it looks great. I vote for that.

If we are going to make the breakfast buffet, Rod n Reel would be cool. Don't know when we are planning on arriving. If not, it's way out of my price range. I can't justify paying 20-30 bucks for some chicken.

I was so excited, I went to Tate today and amazingly was able to walk out with a radiator, modular front end (I think that's what its called), and the underbody panel. It was all in stock! Got home at 5, and was done by 10 (trust me, it was a lot of work!)

I would say that I am more of a Smokey Joe's person, unfortunately seafood doesn't really do it for me...

Yeah, unfortunately some things haven't worked out, and other times I have been too worried about wet roads etc... Glad to be back in the game though!

I'd vote for Smokey Joe's. My copilot and I aren't fans of seafood. Yick...

Good news... you'll be able to choose whichever restaurant you want... We're going to eat in BOTH!

I was just in Smokey Joe's for lunch today (again) and it was great! And I'm planning to check out the Rod & Reel (again) tomorrow for their Sunday brunch (11am if anyone wants to join). We better get this run over with soon, or I won't fit behind the wheel of my MINI

The route down is pretty much finalized... 57 miles starting in Bowie at the entrance to the Baysox Stadium in the Chik fil A parking lot. The route back up is a bit shorter, but still fun and most importantly, it ends at the Rita's in Edgewater!

Stay tuned for more developments
