[May 16th - 18th] Invitation: Carlisle Import Car Show
[May 16th - 18th] Invitation: Carlisle Import Car Show
Hey DC!
It's Ross From Carlisle MINI. We just wanted to extend an all out invitation to everyone for this years Carlisle Import Car Show.
They asked for it... here is a Quote right for them...
"For 2008 we have decided to feature all British cars rather than just one manufacturer. That’s right, we want to see more MGs, Triumphs, Jags, Austin Healeys, TVRs, Minis and Land Rovers than ever before. We’re hoping for a “British Invasion” of sorts by our friends from across the pond. If the turnout of Volvos this year is any indication we can expect an amazing display of England’s finest in 2008."

I'm signed up as of today! If y'all haven't been there, the Import show at Carlisle is great fun. Lotsa good cars to look at. A HUGE flea market of tools and old car bits for sale, and fairgrounds food! Yum, love the Hot Smokies with everything! Oh, and if you reg your car you get to park in the show each day and get two admissions for each day.
We had a good turnout of MNI's last year. It's only about 2 hours away, you run up 270 and Rt15, and bear off on 74 to Carlisle. Once you're past Frederick it's a nice easy drive. I'll round up and post some pics.

Thank you!
Sorry I had just pasted the message. Forgot to set the links up. My bad..
Thanks to whoever fixed it.
This year they are going to be Centering their attention on English Cars..
If you have never been up to Carlisle Fairgrounds it is a huge venue. This is on of the largest car show venues in the North east!
Well please again stop in at Carlisle Mini & say hey.
I will keep everyone in DC posted on more details as we gather them.

I have been going to the import show at carlisle on and off for the last
fifteen years and it is definitely a must do. Saturday is the day to go,
and spend the extra $20.00 to get into the infield where all the different
marques can park together. You will have a good time!

When they say "Minis", I'm assuming they mean the classic ones. How do they feel about the second generation? I've found that the classic owners tend to look down on the 2nd generation MINIs, calling them BMWs.
Before I commit, I'd like to know that the 2nd generation cars and owners are welcome for sure...

Since Carlisle Mini is a 2nd gen club and they are inviting DCMM to join them, I don't see any reason to think we would not be welcome. I was at this show last year and there were plenty of 2nd gen cars in the infield. There were also plenty of other fantastic old and new cars. This is a great show!
I plan on going again this year. We will even have our own tent (provided by the show) if we can get 25 cars together.
That shouldn't be too difficult between Carlisle and DCMM. It's a great way to spend a Saturday.

Carlisle if fun.
There are very very few Classic Minis at Carlisle. Maybe 2-3 last year. But probably 18-24 NEW MINIs. So worry not we'll be in the majority by far. I always have a great time hanging out by my car enjoying the 'MINI love' that people walking the show had.
The classics may have "100% free of BMW parts" stickers in the back window but they're few of them at this show anyway, and this show features ALL imports plus kit cars / replicas. So it's not like being at a typical British car show where you hear a bit more of the Bimmer comments directed at new MINIs.
While I don't appreciate the attitude some classic Mini owners have, I can understand it as a fan of all things SAAB built BEFORE GM bought SAAB. I don't care for the newer GM SAABS but I'd never say anything derogatory to a owner of one like Mini owners do to us.
I've personally seen that Mini vs MINI thing mostly at the Britain on the Green show in Alexandria. A friend / coworker of mine is one of the organizers of the show and has a TR-4. He assured me that even though the show was 'about' classic British cars that they welcome and seek new Brits too, the Lotus, Jags, and current MINIs. He sought me out when he heard I bought a MINI and encouraged me to bring my car. In fact since we had 5 new MINIs pre-registered last year they created a class just for us for the people choice voting. Yours truly got a nice medal for 'peoples choice' car in the new MINI category.
Theres a few Mini guys there too and a couple appear to have a small 'tude. Not all by any means. But the other couple hundred showing and all the attendees seem to love the new MINIs and enjoy them being there.

Our's were built in Oxford, UK by pub grub eating Brits employed by MINI on the same location as Mini. That's good enough for me.....
What do the Mini guys do with the Honda modded classics ? I don't recall seeing "Zero Honda parts" on any of them
Carlisle
Carlisle is the place if you're a ''car guy/gal'', when i lived in Nothern Va,i was there for Spring,Import,Corvettes and Fall Carlisle,as i was into a lot of different cars over the years. Carlisle is a great show and swap meet and the food, everything imaginable from turkey legs to perogies to funnel cakes and the aforementioned polish sausages, its all great!I'm a Tarheel member and i'd like to go,if only on Sat.I'd like to put a face to some ''names'' here on NAM.

I've been out at the show the last couple years and I didn't notice any animosity toward the new MINIs. You'll sometimes hear someone passing and referring to the MINIs as BMWs, but I typically have chalked that up to stupidity. I never got the sense it was said as an insult, but merely out of ignorance.
Either way, who cares. It's a great show and I wouldn't miss it.

As for the show, not sure I'll go though the drive is nice as Mark pointed out. I used to frequent the Fall event when I was working on my Cougars and looking for bits and pieces. If you're a car nut and have never been there - GO !
That's great ! Now if they had it in a static window decal.......

Beeped and waved as we were next to him but a stern turn of the head... hmmm Aren't we just a ball of sunshine?
Really though al shall have a good time.
THERE WILL BE A TENT FOR EVERYONE...
Again if there is anyquestions please contact me either on NAM or at Carlisle Mini http://http://minicooper.meetup.com/184/

.
I would be more understanding of this attitude if the car was built in Germany, by Germans with all German parts.
