Being an old metal head.......

You can hang in a left or hang in a right
The choice it is yours to do as you might
The road is open wide to place your bidding
Now, wherever you turn, wherever you go
If you get it wrong, at least you can know
There's miles and miles to put it back together!

Making a curve or taking the strain
On the decline, or out on the wain
Oh everybody breaks down sooner or later
We'll put it to rights, we'll square up and mend.
Back on your feet to take the next bend!
You weather every storm that's coming atcha!

Heading out to the highway !

I love metal especially Priest, there are some beautiful sounds recorded amongst their music, especially guitar that is just wonderful, I swear I can actually "feel" the speaker material in certain songs...they got it mic'd just right

Listen to the guitar intro to "Bloodstone" that's a Fender Strat and a Marshal 100 watt amp cranked to "11", you can here the wood case resonance and that "speaker feel" I'm talking about.

Love it !

Mike

Or maybe this one. Of course this applies to R56 owners more so than others, but either way.

...Then we race together. we can ride forever
Wrapped in horsepower, driving into fury
Changing gear I pull you tighter to me

Im your turbo lover
Tell me theres no other
Im your turbo lover
Better run for cover

We hold each other closer, as we shift to overdrive
And eveyrthing goes rushing by, with every nerve alive
We move so fast it seems as though weve taken to the sky
Love machines in harmony, we hear the engines cry.

Im your turbo lover
Tell me theres no other
Im your turbo lover
Better run for cover...

This was the first song to go through my speakers. I played it right in the dealers lot.

I do looove me some Priest as well. Just listened to Sad Wings yesterday. Good stuff.

Cool song but I think Rob had another idea on his mind in that song !

Wink-Wink, nudge-nudge

Love it !

I've got Red Barchetta blasting through my brains on my ipod as I type here at work !

"Brilliant Red Barchetta from a better vanished time......we'll fire up the willing engine responding with a roar"

Mechanical music !

Nice. I foresee a long conversation about music in our future. I know it's easy for me to get caught up in a music conversation. So brush up on your trivia and be prepared for this next run or whenever i see you next.

Last night I found what I think would be great music for a run. Sgt. Pepper (The Beatles) and/or Tommy (The Who). Then of course you roll down both windows and crank the Iron Maiden.

Pinball wizard has one of the best recorded electric guitars I think I've ever heard, of course Townsend is awesome too ! Leona and I turn it up to bleeding levels when in Wensleydale !

I love Maiden....Period, but their early stuff (Dickinson era-the best) was recorded firstly on what I believe to be an SSL4000 (maybe a 9000) series recording desk resulting in a very "bright" and somewhat "cold" sound, not much warmth as found in Priest recordings. One suggestion I have been told regarding the maiden sound was that they mixed at too high a volume and since low's are more obvious at high dB, they actually mixed the lows out......true ? Who knows but they do lack warmth Later Dickinson solo stuff reveals what I think Maiden should have really sounded like. Modern day Maiden I find a bit over produced.....and a bit too clean.

Nonetheless, sounds like we'll have plenty to talk about.....and if you're a T-Rex or Marc Bolan fan, Leona will talk your ear off

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry Mike, my mistake. I thought THIS was the VA get together thread. Guess it's time to get back to my drums. Actually, I have a performance this evening at 8pm. Maybe we can start a thread for musicians to get together in VA

This is the VA Get-together thread that inspired the redux of the Spring Fling!

Music and motoring go hand in hand.

Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf
Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd
Highway to Hell - AC/DC

The list goes on.............

When I was at the studio the drummers never got any respect, they always got the look......at least not till this one guy showed up, tuned his kit and produced some awesome sounds!

DCMM Band? How about the DC Metro Musicians?

Anybody interested in exploring the possibility of a group/jam session sometime? Maybe bring it up at the annual meeting?

Cool....

A jam session, what a great idea. You've got my vote.

I believe MiniFiddler plays the violin and Irish Fiddle, I play the Bodhran (Irish frame drum), most ethnic drums and classical percussion, and D-Unit plays drums and bass. And of course we have the rock band players Laura and Dave on PS3! Probably some guitar heros as well

Who else is lurking out there with interest and an instrument?

There's a thread somewhere here on NAM with a huge list of "Motoring songs". I've got a playlist on my iPod especially for Motoring - all car related songs. One particularly good cover is Fear Factory's Cars. First, here's the original by Gary Numan:

and Fear Factory's version - great video too!

And yet another rocker pilot:

Numan is known for his love of flying and has owned several aircraft, most famously, since 1984, a radial-engined Harvard WW2 trainer often seen in formation aerobatic displays. Numan was a passenger in one of these aircraft when it made an emergency landing on a main road in England, in 1981. This came shortly after successfully flying around the world, during which he was briefly imprisoned in India on suspicion of spying. His aerobatic flying career is also noted on the BBC TV series The Mighty Boosh, whose character Vince Noir (Noel Fielding) is a huge Numan fan, with a "Cars" ringtone on his mobile phone. Numan has recently stated that he likes to go sailing from time to time. Numan's brother is also a pilot and has flown aircraft such as the Bristol Blenheim at airshows. Numan was also a member of the Air Training Corps

Here he is on the third from the left, I had a model of the plane they're leaning against.

ROCKBANDDDDDDDD Oh yeah! We had to get another guitar already, the strum stopped working...

As for motoring music..depends on what mood I am in and if I am with Jay or not. Anywhere from stuff I can sing to, or techno. I never thought about making specific "motoring" mixes..I may just have to think on that one
