I have a guitar, an electric piano, a small PA & microphone, peter's electric bass, some beers and food.

Wanna do a little jam session party?

Wanted to through in some music thoughts......

If you like surf guitar, I love these guys, Leona and I have been fans of them since their early days playing at "Twist and Shout" in Bethesda.

Please welcome "Los Straitjackets" !

and with the "World Famous Pontani Sisters" Angie, Tara and Helen !

If they ever return to the 8 x 10 in Baltimore and you dig surf, you cannot miss this show, they are absolutely fantatsic !

Favorite tunes are:

University Blvd. (you can hear this on the website and its my all time favorite)
Outta Limits (you can hear this on the website)
Perfidia (Old Ventures tune that rocks on your MINI stereo)
Calhoun surf
Jetty Motel
Itchy Chicken (you can hear this on the website)
Tailspin (you can hear this on the website)

Here's the website: http://www.straitjackets.com/index.html

My favorite album (though I love them all): http://www.straitjackets.com/catalog/info/utterly.html

If you're ever in California, take a drive up the PCH with the guys in your CD player !

Cheers,

Mike

Hey, I've got a question for all the mini musicians. I'm thinking of buying a mini (probably clubman s) but I'm a little worried about space for gear as I am a bass player. I mainly just carry around my gig bag, no amp, but it still seems like a tight fit without resorting to folding the seats.

Does anyone have some good stories about how much gear can be crammed into a mini? Any other good buying advice (or links to threads containing such advice)?

Oh how perfect is this?!

I am a bass player too. not only that, but i did a bit of jamming last week, so i had to carry lots of gear. Here's whats up:

Your gig bag will fit in the back seat, just lay it down. now i also brought along my amp and one of my cabs. it's a 4X10, and i was wondering myself whether it would fit. well, this time, of course, i had to fold the seats down. but to my surprise i had too much space and was worried about it sliding around in turns. i wasnt prepared for this so i wedged a pillow in between one side of the amp and one side of the car and drove carefully. so, amp in the front seat, cab in the back with the seats down, and the bass in the floor between the front and back seats. worked out pretty well. you just gotta take out the cover that hangs in the back, real simple. your salesman will tell you how, and if not, ask another owner.

you will have plenty of room, so please dont let that be a dealbreaker when you go to buy.

EDIT: I just re-read you post and saw that you were probably getting a clubman. in that case, you will have way more room than i do. I have the cooper s. you will have no problems whatsoever.

Ah, good to hear. I've been assuming I'd need the clubman to fit a decent amount of stuff, but it's nice hearing how it would all fit in the mini mini. The other car I'm considering is the VW GTI and it looks like it would require folding the back seats as well.

Anyone try to fit a bass and the "World Famous Pontani Sisters" in a mini?

Last week, I haul a bass, an electric piano, a music and mic stand, camera gears bag and accessories bag, and other things. It's fit.

with any car, if you are hauling your gear, you probably wont be able to have a full load of passengers. but that is to be expected with anything short of a big wagon or a van or truck, or maybe one of those unfun mid-size (read gargantuan) family sedans. if you want a fast/fun car, i dont think you are going to be able to get around folding the seats down or otherwise compromising some passenger space. thats not a problem for me because im the only one who is ever in my car. and even if someone is riding along it is usually one person. very rarely are there two or more people in my car, and in that case, im not carrying my music stuff. so you gotta think about these situations and how often you will need to carry passengers and gear at the same time. good luck with buying your MINI and not a GTI.

I considered the GTI as well, but thats a whole different thread...

I know there is a thread where somebody is asking about a MINI vs GTI, and there are probably a few, but good luck finding them. The search function is crap at best.

Yeah, I'm not expecting many passengers so it's not really a big deal to have the seats down all the time. My current vehicle is a GMC Sonoma so right now I don't have any back seats. It has a 3rd door on the drivers side, unlike the clubman, and my bass fits in behind the seats with plenty of room. The problem is it only has a 120 hp engine and only gets about 20/21 mpg average. So even the MCS would be an upgrade of interior cargo space, just a little narrower.

I'll poke around for the GTI vs Mini threads. As of today I'm leaning towards the Mini, but then I've got to pick a color. That could be an even harder decision.

A MINI full of Pontani Sisters would easily be a better choice than a GTI

Beautiful girls and really nice ! Angie's really sweet and her online recipes are fantastic ! http://www.pontanisisters.com/

Tara has had twins and is taking a break from the shows, Pekaboo is filling her shoes, Helen is my favorite for beauty but that's just me....they're all great !
