Lucky Dog Tune

I know there are many people on here looking at different tuning options. And I know everyone knows about Lucky Dog's Tune. But I wanna talk about it now, since I have just gotten it on my JCW.

I just had it done yesterday. Definately a difference in power. There is more pull in the mid range right around 3000 rpm. and it's kinda nice to wind out the gears to 7300rpm or so. That will take some getting used to.

On the highway in 6th gear, the MINI pulls much stronger especially when accelarating from 70. Of course when you downshift, it's even more fun.

I really recommend for people looking at tunes, to go with the LDG tune. These guys know what they are doing. They tune it per your car according to what you have in your car. And I know they can do dyno tunes as well, which is really the best route to go if you truly want the best type of tune.

I'm really posting this here since LDG is local to the DC/Baltimore area. Even though I would drive down from out of state for their tune as well.

Cool... does that make it a LDW? Lucky Dog Works?

From everything I've read and heard from others, LDG is doing good things to MINIs. It is definitely nice to have a shop in the area that knows the car so well and knows how to extract that extra power from it.

Congratulations on your Tune

I know that with what John did for Soulfire, I recommend this tune to ANYONE! It has been so much fun
And to have it before MOTD! WOW what a difference from last year! Well, ok, so maybe that isn't the ONLY difference (we WERE bone stock last year!) but it sure has made a difference in the power of the beast!

Can anyone that began with a stock MCS and got a pulley and tune (from LDG) comment on any changes they may have tracked regarding their everyday driving gas mileage?

Thanks!

To be honest I have not tracked it at all. John said a two mile per gallon
increase is possible, but even if it were a four mile per gallon decrease I
would'nt care! Way, way too enjoyable.

I haven't noticed any mileage decrease and I have more than a pulley and tune.

I also have a JCW. But, I don't really want to tamper too much with the JCW package. What else to do before having a Lucky Dog tune? And, I'd also like to know how much Thanks for the info guys.

Does anyone have a before and after dyno of the LDG tune? It would be nice to see what they improve upon. Ideally a base dyno, then a dyno of just the flash, followed by a dyno tune.

one thing john had suggested with the jcw was actually going to a 15% pulley and then getting a tune. That would get some real power down to the ground without breaking the bank.

Consdering that the JCW already comes with a 14.7% pulley, replacing it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, IMO.

I've heard different numbers thrown around, I've heard from another reliable source that the JCW pulley is only 10.something %.

The only other number I've heard than 14.7 is 14.3. Even at 14.3, it seems silly to swap out with a 15, especially if your car is still under warranty. 10 seems way off to me.

Sherwin, you are the last person I expected would get the LDG tune, since you are all-JCW. I am curious and interested in the tune myself, but it will definitely have to wait until after my warranty is over... and likely the extended warranty. I plan on buying the EW, since with all of my OEM options I am much more likely to exercise it than the average person!.

It's almost definitely not a 14.7% reduction. Having seen both pulleys side to side there is just way too much of a visible difference. I'm going to see if I can get a hold of a JCW pulley that was removed and get some more precise measurements.

Yep, a quick diameter check of the belt surface should clear this up. The ~10% number came from a MINI certified tech, so I tend to believe it, but as I'm often a skeptic, nothing beats actually measuring it ourselves.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=33923

There are others threads as well discussing this

14.3 (maybe 14.4 per Randy)

"JCW is 2.21" (the 15% is 2.19") and stock is 2.58"."

The main thing I was worried about was the dealer being able to "see/know" the flash is there. Once I found out that they wouldn't be able to see it, i had no problems doing it.

I can say for sure that it has made a very noticeable difference in the power delivery. I am very happy with it. It also tends to make me speed more since the extra power is a little more addicting.

Obviously, the tech didn't know how to measure. Just look at the numbers. People with an exhaust, 15% pulley and air intake are laying down about the same WHP as a JCW car, so there is no way that the JCW pulley is only 10% reduction.
