Wheel fitment question...
Wheel fitment question...
Hi, can somebody please help me with this. I'm not really sure how offset works and I've read through as much as I can, but... I want to put a set of 20" x 8.5" wheels on my countryman s all4. Tire Rack shows wheels that are compatible at that size, but I'm looking at different wheels and I'm not sure why they would or wouldn't fit.
The wheels I want to put on are:
Size: 20x8.5
Offset: +35mm
Backspacing: 6.06"
Bolt Pattern: 5-120
The compatible wheels on Tire Rack are:
Size: 20x8.5"
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 6.61"
Bolt Pattern: 5-120
Don't really know how spacers work, but if somebody could help me I'd greatly appreciate it... Thanks.

The et35 (mm) wheels are going to stick out 10mm further than the et45's.
So you will not need spacers. One centimeter isnt much of anything really. Puts them out closer to the arches is all.
Stock Mini coupes are usually et48 for example. An et35-38 will fit just fine on them, and also look better that way, vs. tucked up in the fenders
Im not sure what a stock Countryman wheel width is either... but that will help push them out a tad if the stock rims are narrower than 8.5
edit: looks like stock are 7.5" wide. Thus if you were to get the 20's with the same 45mm offset, then they would stick both in AND out 1/2" (making up the extra inch in rim width). With the 10mm helping you out, it should pretty much stick out that extra 3/4" and your inner wheel clearance will be about the same (or maybe 1/4" less)

Ok. So if I go with the 20s (+35 offset) they should fit without spacers... They'll stick out a bit (3/4") and tighten up my wheel well a bit... Do you think they'll rub at full turn or bottom out easily? I know you can't tell for sure, and thanks so much for your help.
Yeah I don't know for sure.... Usually at any stock height there is a ton of room. Itll all depend on tires. You can easily make a rim/ tire combo equal the diameter of the stockers. You could always go turn full lock and see if you have a little to spare with the extra width.
You can usually add some width without any rubs. I would venture to guess the Countryman is still rather unclaimed territory when it comes to wheel fitment.
To answer your question, yes, I am nearly completely certain that with the lower offset making up for the rim width, that they'll fit just fine, long as you don't go adding too much rubber!

Looks good!
Any rubbing issues anywhere? What tires? Are they run-flats? How's the ride and what did you take off?
I think that's it...........:-)

No rubbing. The new 20" setup is nearly the same overall diameter and 225 vs. 205 width. I'm using Hankook 225/35/20 Ventus V12 non-runflats and the ride is stiff but still softer than the stock runflats.
They're 20" TSW Nurburgring in matte gunmetal.
I was expecting the height to be way taller with the 20s, but it ended up sitting just right for me. I like the height. I live about 70 miles north of NYC and the roads can get nasty (rough roads, potholes, gravel/dirt roads) Any lower might turn out to be a nightmare. The thin rubber is a bit scary, but after a few decent pothole dives the wheels remain unscathed...

Looks good although I don't think I'd go bigger than 19s.
Yeah, Staten Island is wheel hell... I wouldn't waste the $ when you know the wheels will get destroyed.
