Four jack stands? That's much less stable than having two tires on the ground. Think about it.

True statement

That's a very true statement. I was thinking that the entire car would have to be up in the air.

At any rate, I have given up. I tried everything I have to loosen those two bolts and they didn't budge. It goes into the shop this week unless kenchan comes up with an idea in the 'little problem' thread.

Probably...

Probably what's going to happen is that you will take it in to the shop this week and because you have been blasting the bolts with WD-40, when the car gets to the shop, he'll be able to knock it right out. Your efforts will not have gone to waste, and the important thing any way, is the end result.
Good luck! I'll look forward to seeing if you're happy with the finished product.

I guess I was just lucky. I and was able to take it to a shop and do it myself while it was on a lift. The lift cost me $5 for about an hour. I used a breaker bar on those bolts. They were very tight I beleive they are set to 44lbs.

I was looking at a parts diagram for the exhaust stuff (hey, what can I say, I'm anxious!) and noticed that on MY car, at least, there is a gasket referenced where it mounts to the cat. Obviously noone had to replace this, otherwise someone would have brought it up. How rusty were those bolts, and is there a chance I'd have to replace them after 4.5 years? (I don't want to get it up on a lift, get those bolts removed and not have replacements if I need them! )

[Edit: Nevermind! It arrived today, I opened it up and everything's in there! Mucho cool! It's going on today! ]

Cheers!
Me - still eagerly awaiting.

Got it installed, must say.. I like it! I'm still getting used to it (4 years with the stock, and never having anything BEFORE the MINI that had a setup worthy of a better exhaust), but it's nice. Since work got slammed today, I let my shop put it on, they commented how well it was put together and it went in solidly. There's JUST enough of the tip sticking out to show it off, and the "Megan" logo is on the side, underneath. (Not good or bad, but something I noticed.)

FOr me, it is kinda loud inside, especially cruising 'round 50Mph. However, I'm owing that to the fact I removed my back seats and haven't put in soundproofing yet. Other speeds - especially idling or slowing down - it's rather quiet. Idling is a barely noticeable rumble, very nice. At higher RPMs, I worry that it sounds too much like a ricer, but again that may be because I don't have soundproofing in the back yet.

Very good job, MR. I couldn't have picked anything better.

Congradulations... I am glad you like it. It took me a couple days to get used to the increased noise level but I still have the back seats. But I find that the increased noise calms down when you aren't using your lead foot. let me know how you mileage does. Mine has increased by a few mpgs.

There are two threads on the Megan system that cover some of the same ground. I posted the following in the other thread. I said in this thread (above) that I would update you when it was done, so:

<< I just finished my install. It was very staright forward. Sounds great. After the computer seemingly took a few seconds to adjust to the change, I took the car around the block, and there definitely is more zip (pardon the pun). Oh, and did I mention it sounds great? >>

I just finished installing the exhaust and it works great. I just had a question about adjusting the position of the exhaust tip. Right now its rubbing against the right side of the bumper. Is there an easy way to move it to the left so its centered?
Thanks

I just had my Mini up on a lift since the muffler's been installed, and decided to take advantage of it and poke. My rattle seems to be coming from the fact that the muffler is almost pressed up against the heat shield - however, I have plenty of clearance around the tip and the bumper. The rattle happens very, very infrequently, and when it does, it's not too noticable, so I'm not messing with it.

All in all, I've gotten a few comments, including a few coworkers stating that the sound is 'unique' (after I asked them if it was loud)..

Well, here's a different take on it.

After I got mine in, my neighbor, who is slightly older than me, said that my car sounded the way a sports car is supposed to sound, like a proper British sports car. That was about the best endorsement I could hope to hear.

Interesting, I had a guy at work compare it to an old MGB with an Abarth. I've had mine on for three weeks now and I'm hooked on the sound. Last couple of days, it's been in the high 70s and I've had a chance to hear it with the roof open and windows down. It's good.

This past weekend I was given one of the best compiments by a 05MCS JCW owner. He was showing me his exhaust and how it has mellowed in 10k miles. I showed him mine and the sound. His eyes opened wide and he exclaimed WOW sounds good...

You are quite welcome, although thanks are obviously in order both ways. You made a Megan Racing believer out of me.

Reorder

I couldn't get in on the first group buy. Will you be ordering more exhausts?

Thanks,

Larry
