RallyMINI - is there a way to tell which way is 'up' before installing it? If I do it myself - OR if I lazy-out and have my muffler/brake shop do it - I'd like to know ahead of time.

Cheers!
Mike.

So far I haven't had any problems with heat on the facia, I will continue to watch it closely. I definetly get noticed by everyone. They all like the low growl.

So, how does the group buy work?

I assume that all the orders need to be shipped to the same city/state??

Thanks for the information on the group buy. I'll take a look, review my $$ and make a decision soon.

Quick installation question, guys. Having never replaced one, and hearing what ya'll had to do, I'm sure I could do it. My question is, when you took the old one off, how many mounting straps/brackets/rubber grommits from the old stock system to the new one did you use? Did you use all new ones, or reuse old ones?

On another note, my reinforcement plate underneath looks like it had one bolt stripped or some such, the head's gone, so it's not actually doing any holding. Since, in the future (near? far?) I'd consider getting the M7 system, but for now is that an issue to be concerned about? (I.e. any rubbing, widening of holes, etc..)

Cheers!
Mike.

Since my car is less than 2 years old, I'm gonna reuse my existing stuff, but then again, I don't replace crush gaskets or crush washers or oil (filter) seal rings, and I have NEVER had a problem as a result of this practice.

Okay, interesting. I had to get a new muffler back when I was under warranty, but that was the last time it's been touched.. I may look into that before taking the old one off.. just in case.

Thanks!

15mm, 14mm, 13mm, 10mm sockets and wrenches... WD-40 (Really Important), Tiny Hands and Patience... lots of it. I just did the install awhile ago... it sounded great as the MC left.

Maybe one day you will sing #3.

You know.. if I had two weeks I could take off of work, I'd drive out THERE and let you do it. Just for kicks!

Wd-40

You've got to have the WD-40 for spraying on all the bolts that need to be removed. Particularly if they're old or rusty. Spray WD-40, wait a few minutes or better yet, spray it on the night before you're going to do the work and let it soak in. Then removing bolts will be MUCH less of a hassle and you're far more likely not to break any or have to use a hacksaw or cutting torch.

POWER to the MINIs!

Nope. I mean.. yah.. that's one thing. But have you ever tried to remove an exhaust hanger from the rubber piece? It doesn't budge no matter how hard you try. You'll probably end up tearing the rubber piece... soooooooooooooo... you spray some WD-40 and voila... like butter. Anyone who's done some exhaust work can vouch for me on that one.

If you have to ask that, you've never unbolted an exhaust from a car Of course, there are other ways to get an exhaust off.

Just teasing. Funny question if you've ever been under a car cursing the stupid rusted-solid bolts waiting for the penetrating oil to get in there.

Actualy, I have never done any exhaust work. I have, for years, left auto and truck repair up to the garage I use. With the new Mini, I want to be hands on so I will understand it better. After my 10k dealer check up, I have a cat back, "c"ai, srp's, brake pads and caliper stiffners to install. We will see how it goes.

Sounds like you're going to hook your MINI up!!!!!
I did know that about the bolts and the WD-40, but frankly, I had no idea about it working on the rubber grommits as well! Good to know!
Thanks guys!

That's the way I prefer to do it I'm just cheap and picky, so often I find I'm happier if I just suck it up and do it myself.

Apparently, I have been defeated in my exhaust install. I can't get the car high enough off the ground to get under there and wield enough leverage to free up those rusted nuts that hold the rear section to the front (header). Several liberal applications of WD40 have done squat.

Right now, the car is sitting in the garage on jack stands under the right front and rear jacking points, and it's not touching the rear jack stand. The stand is under there so the car wouldn't fall on me, but the whole right side of the car seems to be balanced on the front right jacking point. Most puzzling.

I guess I'll try it again tomorrow and then have my local down-the-road guy do it during the week.

Just... be careful. I'd hate for this exhaust to kill you, if the car fell.

What HE said!

HOLY CRAP! I would never get under a car unless it was supported by 4 (count them) jackstands. Dude don't give it another try...just leave it up to the pro's. It will probably cost under $100...
