Delete air intake resonator

Hi everyone, i want to remove the air intake resonator (or whatever is called) and use a single silicon tube from the air intake to the air filter, is this a good or bad idea?

Should be just fine. That doesn't look like my R50's intake line though. Mine was a tube that ran from the front of the car to the air filter box. I got an aFe intake and it has been flawless for years.

We've been removing it with our DDM intake setup for over 10yrs. The combo really improves throttle response.

Well, THIS explains my nice intake growl! Mine doesn't have the resonator on it and it sounds decent. I never knew it was supposed to be there until I read this thread. I may go full CAI though in the future as the intake tube is WAY too low to the ground for where I live due to frequent street flooding. It seems like one of those engineering afterthoughts on this car that no one really took the time to plan out properly.

This is what my R50 sounds like with that aFe and the Megan exhaust. Mic is tucked inside the engine bay by the battery box. Most of what you are hearing is the intake sounds.

Did this years ago. Mod manufacturer listed in signature. Love the growl! Better response or fuel efficiency...who knows?

If you have removed the stock air filter box, I don't see any use in removing the parts circled in red. Only weighs about a pound or so, so not much gained there. If you are re-routing the air from the front cowl on top of the radiator to an aftermarket box, should be just a few clips and bolts. From the image, it looks like just one hose clamp at the top and probably one or two bolts for the rest. Not sure where they would be. I have since sold my R50.
