Cold Air Intake ... even the wife can do it!

Just installed the K&N 69-2005TTK CAI for our '07 MINI Cooper. Installation took less than 30 minutes. Will update MPG numbers later.

but is this a 'cold' air intake though? hot engine air all gets into the intake.

DoS, DueIL AG, or factory JCW. I think those are true CAIs.

This is for a Cooper though, none of those intakes you listed are for his car. I guess it's sort of a CAI since cold air is still running in from the front of the car but it's not completely covered. I didn't know K&N started making an intake for the Cooper.

Replace that intake muffler with a straight pipe and you'll have one sweet sounding car!

Let's just call it a cold/hot air intake that is a lot less restrictive than the factory intake; or in military terms "cold/hot less restrictive" (CHLR) I guess I could weld a cover plate on top; then all the air would have to come from the intake ducting. K&N advertises 4.1HP gains with this intake. Not that I'm worried about HP with a standard Cooper, but if it helps w/ the gas mileage that's a good thing.

I have seen the post about taping up the holes in the intake muffler, but I haven’t done that yet--probably won’t. When I started the car I couldn’t tell any difference in sound, but as soon as the engine is under a load, it really sounds different! Very throaty! We like it!

Is the bottom of that air box connected to a fresh air duct from the front of the vehicle? I assume that's how stock is. Sorry i have an S. Looks similar to mine. And mine is open at the top like so and is definitely a cold air intake

Yes. This setup replaces the top of the airfilter box, the filter, and the ducting that goes to the throttle body; the rest is factory.

Yeah but is the bottom of the box have a duct connected to it from the front of the car (fresh air supply) just curious. If so then it is a cold air intake
