but the r56 having can-bus and all this **** i don'f fully understand yet the question is whats the best place to pick up a normal ignition live on an r56 without causing other issues?

thanks in advance for advice

It's the same as any other car. Use an Add-A-Circuit to tap power from a fuse. Choose a fuse that is switched with the ignition.

When i hard wired my radar detector, I tapped off the 12v for the "cigarette" lighter by the gear shifter/cup holders. Wires can then be fed thru the dash etc, keeping it neat.

The green wire on the IBD2 port provides 12 volts with ignition on.

The green wire on the IBD2 port provides 12 volts with ignition on.

The red and blue wire at the opposite corner is 12 live all volts live all the time.

Th purple wire with white stripe next to the green wire is < 8 volts with ignition on.

Add-a-fuse to a 12v+ switched circuit in the fusebox.. It's how I did my dash cam and probably the easiest method.

Easier than pressing a t-connector onto a wire which is right under the dash? I dont think so.

Yeah, easier than that if you can open fusebox.
