R56 Issue: Key Fob? Battery? Key Fob Receiver?

Hello,

I recently encountered an issue where when I insert the key fob into my R56, it doesn't do anything. At all. No Auxiliary power. No accessory mode. The car is just not recognizing my key fob.

My first reaction was to check out the battery. My ScanGauge has the battery voltage at 12.2 without the engine running. According to the Bentley Manual, this is within tolerance. Additionally, I can still turn on the radio, the interior lights, and I can still use the mechanical key (the one from inside the fob) to roll down/up the windows from the driver side door. I don't think it's the battery.

The key fob's buttons themselves work. I can still lock/unlock the door and still do the thing where you hold down the button for 3 seconds and it rolls down the windows from afar.

This leaves either the key fob receiver on my dashboard, or the physical key or its inner components. The receiver on the dashboard still physically accepts the key; it locks in place as it has the previous 500K times or so- it just doesn't do anything at all.

Any one have any similar issues?

Thanks in advance, ladies and gents.

PS: I'm military in Germany so I'm trying to keep from paying 200 Euro for a tow until I can narrow it down as best I can. The Mini dealer closest to me won't have openings until at least 29 Aug either so if it's the Key, I can at least have it ordered or something.

Cheers,
Ta

couple of thoughts

1. Car should have 2 fobs ... both doing the same thing?

2. Is your fob on a key ring with other keys and stuff? Some have found the weight of the key ring was stopping the fob from sitting in the slot correctly. Sometime a jiggle uncovered the issue .....

Happed to me 2 years go.
Get a mobile car key company to come to where the car is, and have them re-program you a new key.

It was the key, key fob. I took the key fob to the dealer, asked them to test, after multiple shops and the dealer suggesting it couldn't be it, and the key fob failed. Ordered a replacement and problem solved.

Similar thing happening to my 09 Clubman S. The day before, it wouldn't start, showed a "no key" symbol. Tried again later, it started up... got got home and turned it off, there it sits. I know my key fob comfort access controls were not working, even with a new replaceable battery (fob going dead?) but I was under the impression that I could still place the key in the start stop cradle. Now I'm thinking it's either the fob or the cradle.

Dale_g, did you have to get a replacement key from the dealership? What'd that run you?
