Please allow me to introduce myself...
Hi everyone, my name is Jimmy aka "PantsedZombie" here on the forums. This is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a little while.
My wife, Jenni, and I just picked up our first Mini yesterday from Patrick Mini in Schaumburg! (Kudos and many thanks to salesguy Justin Vallo at Patrick Mini who was GREAT to work with!) The wifey and I are hardcore "VW people" and have owned 6 VW's. We traded in TWO VW's yesterday and picked up a 2010 Mini Mayfair 50 Edition!
My wife is also here on the forums... her screen name here is "ZombiePants".
We're hoping to attend some cruises and get togethers very soon!!
Oh... we have a (potentially annoying?) habit of naming our vehicles, and the Mini is no exception...
Therefore, we introduce to you.... CHEWBACCA!
...and yes, we are aware of the "chewbacca howl clutch issue" on the R53s.. we just like the name Chewbacca since the Mayfair is brown.
(Please keep in mind that it was overcast and lightly raining when we took most of these pics, so they're not the greatest pics.
)

I LOVE the interior!
It also came with really nice black floor mats that have matching white piping, but we're using the rubber winter mats it came with for now because of rain.
Hot Chocolate Metallic paint / Toffy Leather interior / Wookie soul

This 1971 Austin Mini that some guy traded in on a brand new Countryman. This thing wasn't even prepped and cleaned up before someone purchased it!!

The wifey and I were fairly involved with the local VW scene... clubs, shows, etc. In fact, we met each other at a VW car show 10 years ago!
We actually attended the Mini Takes The States event at Soldier Field in September and autocrossed 4 different Minis.
We've been looking for a Mini to call our own ever since. We can't wait to make it out to a local Mini event!!

Actually, in addition to what the wifey said above this post...
Over the past 10 years, I was most active in GLNBJ (Great Lakes New Beetle Junkies), CVO (Chicago VW Organization) and FAHRFRUMLUZIN.
However, I was also very, very briefly a member of TeamBagTag and DubNoxious.
hmmm... havent heard of those groups. I'll have to ask my brother. His buddy is still into the air-cooled scene. I was sort of involved with N.I.V.A. before I got my MINI in '05. I helped my brother keep his VW running, but I didnt own one myself. But I've always wanted to own one of those split-windowed Bugs.

I'm very familiar with NIVA and the wife and I have known Kirk & Pam Schultz for over 10 years now! We have attended NIVA events in the past as well. Mostly the Anderson VW shows every year and sometimes other events... spring tuning get together at Jim's place in Rockford one year, a cruise to Popeyes in Lake Geneva another year and a few cruises to SuperDawg.
Ahhh... You probably didn't know about those groups because they're water-cooled clubs.

checkout the club site for the next gathering. otherwise, we can always get a small group together to hangout or run some fun roads in the area
Hi again! It's story time about the short history of our car....
When we bought it, it had around 4,000 miles on it and the dealership told us it was a "Mini executive" car. In the glove box, we found paperwork and information that lead us to believe that it was used at auto shows and Mini promotional tours since it had "Press" information and "North American Vehicle Services" on the documentation which was odd for any 'used' car with super low miles.
Well, while browsing around on YouTube this week, we found a Cars.com video review of this car.... THIS car... OUR car!
We paused the video and saw the key chain up close in one shot and found its the same exact key chain our car came with. The same serial numbers are on it. Also, in the shots where the car is driving on the road where you can see the rear license plate, it matches the NJ plate number in our documentation and on the other key chain on our second key!
SO... if you want to see what our car looks like, watch the video review I linked below! It's actually OUR CAR!!! Wacky wild yo.
