Fun commute
Fun commute
A little bit of snow turned my normal 20 minute drive from Deerfield to Skokie (15 miles) into a 3 hour 1st gear crawl tonight.
Who else had a fun commute?
Saw only 2 MINIs on the road, but no waves.

Mine wasn't so bad, the roads were fairly clear and I managed to miss the worst of the idiocy, but we're supposed to get even more of this crap tomorrow night.........along with ice........even so my normal 20 min commute took about an hour.
Thursday night we're supposed to have a KCMiniacs event (a Christmas lights drive) but if it's bad out I doubt we'll get much of a turnout.

days like today i am so thankful i work from home...
The door handles and wiper blades were all frozen over by the time I got home. Needed to clean it all off so I have a chance to get back into the car and drive it tomorrow.
1.5 hr commute from peru to palatine. Basically way down 80 to woodfield mallish area. 100 miles
First 70-75 miles right up to where 355 dumps into 290 thinks were fine doing the speedlimit cars were moving to the right to let faster drivers pass etc. Took me 2.5 hours to do the last 20 miles as I got onto 53 what a cluster.
Did the 1st gear scoot for a while

Drifted through the roundabout yesterday on the way home - oops. The way in today I left late waiting for traffic to clear and my 25 mile drive took over an hour. 1st geat at 5mph is just so not fun.
I usually work from home on Tuesdays, but needed to go in for a 1/2 day meeting. Made the drive home that much more "special".

ARGH! the door handles!!! Yours too?! Mine would stick inside the handle each time I depressed them, and it was just so cold and wet the past few days that nothing I did released them... they just decided to let go on their own after my hands were immobile from the cold.
Luckily, I'm off to FL next Tuesday!!! And then Maui in March! See ya later, winter you freakin jerk.
Ahhh, the joys of owning a 4x4 for the winter.....
"Roads...... Where were going, we don't need roads" [back to the future, part 1?,2?,3?]
I'm pretty sure my MINI would have be scooping up snow, or I'd still be in a ditch somewhere... Hard to see when you've got a white roof!!!!

ok... I'll be the party pooper
my commute TUE night was about an hour... not terrible since I don't need to get on the expressway to get home. the MINI handled quite nicely in the snow. If this keeps up, I might have to get a set of snow tires...

Washer fluid on the door handles helped get mine unfrozen the other day...
I've also found that taking residential side streets instead of main roads during snowstorms allows me to not deal with the frustration of crawling along at 4 mph in rush-hour traffic. Coasting through stop signs when nobody else is around is more acceptable when it's snowing anyway.

wasn't too bad this am for me...till the last 1mile in scamburg.
dang it, where are the damn snow trucks?
my car almost got
stuck in the intersection due to snow plows leaving the plowed snow
in the middle of the intersection.

I'm working from home instead of trying to get out..
One MINI is stuck in the garage until I clear a 1/2 block of unplowed alley, and the other one is happy just hanging out in the snow..

Tuesday afternoon it took me 2 hours to drive from Warrenville to Elgin. Normally takes me 45 min. I woudln't be bad if it wasn't for the traffic. While the winter tires did not make huge improvement while accelerating, I was still able to drive about 50mph when i hit backroads without traffic (creative shortcuts).
This morning I decided to take wife's forester which also has winter tires on and handles snow driving much better (or much fun should I say), but 1/4 of the way I got phone call from my manager that I can work from home as they are not coming in either.
