Official 2nd Annual Dragon Brew Swap Thread
Brew Swap website updated
Hello Brew Lovers. Good day to you.
The Brew Swap website was updated yesterday and again this morning. You'd know this if you were subscribed to receive these updates by email. So again I tell you, SUBSCRIBE! Seriously though, the website will be where you will first see the official logo, the t-shirts, notification that registration is open and more. There should be quite a bit happening on the site over the next month so I suggest you, at th every least, bookmark it.
The Trivia Event for the Beerlympics has been altered to include more drinking and be more fun. I can't wait.
The T-Shirt page has been updated to reflect this year's pricing. I took into account the cost of the shirts, the cost of shipping, Paypal fees and so on. I feel this is the best I can do for everyone. You vets will see there is not much price difference ($1-$2 more for the shirts & $1 more for shipping). Only significant difference is the requirement that all shirts be shipped this year. That isn't a money making ploy (as I didn't make any money off the shipping costs last year) but rather a necessity. I'm flying this year and don't want to have to have a dedicated suitcase to bring the shirts. Nor do I want to ship them there and have someone spend the entire night giving out the shirts. I am still debating on whether or not I will have any to be sold that night at the event. If you want one, best to order it when it opens up.
So far no word from the Home Brewers. I'm going to set a deadline of February 18, 2007. If I don't hear back from people by then there will be no competition. Of course home brews are still most welcome, there just wouldn't be a contest surrounding them.
I also need the input of say, 10 people, on an item I am considering purchasing for all the attendees. I have a sample of the product and I can send you a picture and description. I'd like to know if you think this would be a cool freebie for the attendees or not. PM me with your email address if you want to give me your feedback. First ten will get an email from me. If you do get that email please keep it to yourself as I would like it to be a surprise if the feedback is good.
Thanks!
Matt

I'd like to attend (Maybe someone'll bring Pyramid Hefeweizen
) but apparently Alabama only has ONE brewery (Blasphemy, I know
) so between the (Whopping) 4-5 of us coming it'll be a challenge finding something interesting to bring
Also, can someone explain to the dense (that'd be me) how this works again? We just bring beer (how much is normal, case, 2 cases) and then "Swap" it with what other folks have brought? Sounds too simple so naturally I'm assuming that I've missed something
Thx

According to Wikipedia there are four active Breweries in Alabama. Click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_beer_and_breweries to see them.
How the swap works is as simple as you stated. You bring beer. You taste others' beer. You offer samples of your beer for tasting. And you trade for beer you like. The quantity you bring is up to you. Many people brought around 2 cases last year. That's for sure what I brought.
There will also be Beerlympics going on. The 4 teams have been chosen and are ready for their head to head matchup.
Pyramid makes some good beer. Where are they based out of?

Yup
First time I tried it was right across the street from Safeco at the Alehouse
Back home my favorite beer is Schoeferhofer Kristallweizen and I must say that (IMHO) the Pyramid Hefeweizen is the best I've found Stateside

). Most breweries you see on the net have on-premises licenses only so they cannot sell bottled beer for carry-out purposes. I only know of one brewery here in Alabama also so we are going to have a tough time finding beer to interest anyone
but hopefully we can make up for that with our charming dispositions
Dude, there's 4 of us... and at least 3 types of Old Towne brew so our options are... Hefeweizen, Amber, Pale Ale and whatever Seasonal they've got out now
Alabama... no place like it
Edit: Question deleted in order to provide "plausible denyability"

Yeah I mean come on, unless you get pulled over and voluntarily tell the cop, "I believe I am breaking the law by illegally transporting beer which was purchased elsewhere." And even then I'm not sure that matters.
My limited look into the subject shows that if its bought for personal consumption and isn't illegal in your home state, or states you travel, then it should be fine.
And I'm sure the dozens who brought back beer from last year can vouch for that.
And to you Alabamians (is that right?), you don't HAVE to bring beer from your region. If you have a kick butt store in your area that gets microbrews from all over then just bring what you like.

If I make it to the Dragon, I will most deffinently do the Beer Swap
Problem is to not drink it before I get it there.
Couple of Breweries in town, and a good selection of Micro-Brews
Arragant Bastard Ale

Since the Dragon is in a dry County, how far do I need to go to get Beer?
If you are flying then find beer nearest to the airport for which you'd fly in to.
Good question. No answer for ya. If you were to drive in I would say stop along the way in any state and pick up some stuff. From California you'd pretty much have your pick of what beer you want from where.
