Help Me Have Fun!

Hello, Everyone.

I'm coming to the Dragon with a serious case of work burn-out. Easter has been my only day off since the beginning of March. I've got another month of straight work once I get back from the Dragon. (Mid-June trade show deadline I've got to meet). Please help me have fun!

I've booked a cabin and bought tickets to the dinners, but I haven't had time to figure out what else to do or see in the area. I'm a 3D animator, which means I stare at computers all day long, and I'm too tired to stare at computers when I get home from work. I'm too tired to do anything but go to bed! The SO is working OT, too, so we are going into this trip seriously unprepared.

So if anyone wants to recommend something fun, I'll at least keep my eyes on this thread. Or, if you have something fun going on and don't mind me and the SO tagging along, feel free to invite us. Just run up and ask!

TIA for any suggestions! I'm totally pathetic right now, but, hey, I'm sure other people know how to have fun and don't mind sharing!

Karen, I feel your pain. May I suggest horseback riding when you get to the dragon. I don't have the phone number to the place but it's only a couple of miles away from Fontana village and the office should have the number. They take you into the woods and up the mountain starting at the base of the Dam. I did it last year and it was a good break from all the driving and computer staring. No blue screens, just green leaves.

Don't sweat it, there's more activities to do up there than you can beat with a stick. As far as I understand, there still should be a whiteboard with events planned by individuals that you can join in on. Failing that, ask around! And failing even that, ask staff!

Or just simply sit back and take in the fresh mountain air! It was actually great last year during the early part of the day to sit outside of the restaurant at the inn, sipping a cup of coffee, and doing absolutely *nothing*!

Have fun!

-Paul!

I'm thinkin some of the national parks (ex. Joyce Kilmer), maybe some waterfalls. Nothing recharges my batteries like reminding myself how small we really are next to the beauty that has been created around us.

Karen, I can assure you that being "seriously unprepared" is the best way to experience the Dragon.

Just come and have fun and do whatever whenever you feel like it.

Ahhhhh....you guys are helping me relax already! I didn't realize there was a lot of stuff to do around there, or that it would be easy to find. I usually make detailed plans with tons of Mapquest print-outs when I travel, but I just ran out of time.

*hugs* to you all! You just cut my stress level in half!

P.S. We're planning on bringing a few board games with us, in case it rains or we run out of energy. Trivial Pursuit, Visualize, those kind of things. We love playing games, and everyone is welcome to join us!

The best activity to do in the rain is sit on the porch of the req center and watch people wash their car in the rain, I kid you not.

Hey Karen. You have and EB! Don't sweat it! you will have fun no MATTER what! There is SOOO much to do and like Paul said, there is a white board or something like that in the Rec hall ( I think) that will have lists of stuff and sign up sheets for activities. Just sit back and RELAX!! That is what this is all about! The only thing blue you will have to look at (besides the beauty of the EB of course!! LOL is the sky) You will have a great time and the next month will just melt away because if you TONS of pics, you can plaster you office or cubicle or whatever with Minis and remember the Dragon and you will forget work That is what I do in the hospital!(forget work that is )

Here's a good plan:

1) Get up early one day.
2) Step out onto the porch of the cabin.
3) Sip coffee and look out at the mist.
4) Listen to the sounds of nature...and Minis.
5) Breathe deep.
6) Repeat as necessary.

I plan on being a total and complete bum in a folding chair for a good deal of the weekend -- you are welcome to join me! I think I'm going to drive out and see waterfalls, maybe a smallish, non-serious hike: whatever I feel like. It seems like most of the pre-planned stuff is in the evenings, so as far as my days are concerned; whatever happens, happens.

You could always join the incredibly popular (yeah, that's a joke) rafting outing.

Hey!! There's a difference between 'wet' and 'dirty'!!!!

(I only wish I was kidding... )

Anyway,

Honestly though KarenTKD, if you're burned out from work, don't sweat the Dragon. Pick a couple of events/activities that you want to do when you get there, and reserve a good amount of time (esp. as others have said in the morning and early afternoon) to just sit back and relax, breathe the mountain air, and watch life go by!

The details of whatever you decide to do will be sorted out and fall into place when you get there!

I'm driving down from NH... and we're just totally winging it.. who knows where I'll wind up this coming w/e?.. there's so many choices.. kinda depends on who I meet and who I get along with.. I'm a bit of a "social butterfly" myself..LOL! (ok..Metal MINI Mayhem Social butterfly?.. as if I didn't confuse people enough on here..LOL!)

^^ Waterfalls seems like a nice, non-committal activity once I'm sick of drinking coffee on the porch and watching people wash cars in the rain

I found out last year that the dam is a very nice place to go and sit while listening to nature. Very quite and foggy around 7am.

I love (repeat, LOVE) board games. I'm absurdly competitive though. I try my hardest to stay restrained & well behaved in front of non-family members.
