Tried that and still nothing. I even bought a new USB C flash drive so I don't have to use an adaptor but still no good. The dealershipr needs to get this sorted now.. I have been in contact with them and they seem to be as stumped as me.
Thanks for speaking with our representative Megan, and thanks for your message, too. I’ll be happy to answer your questions.
We currently do not have information regarding a maximum drive capacity for USB flash drive audio playback. FAT32 and exFAT are the recommended drive formats. Please note that due to the large variety of USB sticks available on the market, it is not possible to guarantee that every USB stick will work with the vehicle, and because there are a number of different compression techniques, proper playback of the media stored on the USB stick cannot always be guaranteed.
Regarding streaming music via Apple CarPlay, please note that the wireless connection between your iPhone and the iDrive is dependent upon the WiFi and the Bluetooth connections between your phone and the vehicle. Anything that interferes with the WiFi connection or Bluetooth connection can potentially disrupt streaming audio, especially as many iPhones will search for nearby WiFi signals or Bluetooth devices to improve location accuracy, and in instances of poor data reception, the phone’s WiFi can be interrupted as the phone seeks a stronger signal. Your MINI’s data connection is not used when streaming any data through your phone, whether or not you are using Apple CarPlay. Media streaming is entirely dependent upon your phone’s data connection to the internet, and the WiFi and Bluetooth connection between the car and your phone.
Thanks for the information but I have tried every combination know to me. FAT32, exFAT, NTFS. The format for the files is MP4 at 128 bit rate and that plays on just about anything and always has. I have tries several different drives of varying sizes. I have tried the same drives in my wife's Mini (2024 countryman) and they all work fine. The one that I was using before I got the new car (2025 Countryman) worked fine in another 2025 countryman that the dealer loaned us to try out.
So, any more advice? Or should I get the dealer to sort it out?
Anyone figure out how to show turn by turn (route) directions in the nav system? On the prior generation you could go into the nav section, click on route and get a list of each turn. On the current U25 all I can get is a white line showing beginning and ending, both in the car and on the phone app. There is a feature in the nav setup called DEMO and that brings up the route with a "car" driving along it indicating the next turn but it is extremely slow - on a long trip it would probably take 20 minutes to go through it. Screen shot is from Google Maps - don't need pictures, although nice touch, but this is what turn by turn should look like.

I went back and re-read everything you posted. So it has never worked in your car? Everything but yours correct?
The only thing I can think of at this point it has something to do with your ID. Let me explain, when I was having an issue I was running to the garage to try different drives etc....well one time I took the spare key which was not linked to me. When I started the car it didnt show the USB port at all! I went and grabbed the main key and sure enough the USB drive and port were active and seen. I would delete everything, do a reset and start again. Software sucks at time but like a computer or phone etc sometimes you have to clean it, rebuild it and start again to eliminate the possibility. Good luck.
Now there is a thought..
You are correct that it has never worked but the car was setup mainly at he dealership before we left..
The second key is setup under a profile for my wife. I might just take that one, start the car and see what it does. I did try it already on the guest account but I don't know what the restrictions are as far as that is concerned.
Notes on a 2025 Countryman SE with HK(688) audio system and aftermarket amp/speak
The U25 HK audio system is comprised of a RAM and a Booster modules, powering 12 speakers with a total of ~375W.
- RAM (Receiver Audio Module) powers 5 tweeters, and 5 mids. Tweeters and mids are wired in parallel, 25W per channel (5ch). OEM Mid + Tweeters are 4ohms. Tweeter have a passive high pass filter in between the mid.
- Booster module powers 2 woofers - 125W per channel (2ch). OEM woofers are 8ohms.
None of these modules can be replaced with aftermarket.
Major features of this OEM system are a 7-band equalizer, and a Surround mode.
The plan for this audio upgrade is to correct this HK system low volume clarity and bass, reduce high volume distortion, eliminate bass clipping in deep bass music, and improve all sources sound clarity at any volume, all while keeping the Surround feature and most of the OEM speakers in place.
This is the hardware installed to accomplish this plan:
- Helix V Eight DSP Mk2 - DSP and amplifier with 8ch inputs, 8ch outputs and 75W x 5ch (4ohms), 160W x 2ch (2ohms)
- Morel IP-BMWSUB82 - 8" subwoofer/midbass at 2ohms
- Audison APBX 10 DS - passive10” sub
The only requirement of this install is to be as plug and play as possible, no OEM wires cut, spliced or tapped, and all OEM modules and OEM features not to be disturbed in any way. All 13 speakers (8ch) are powered by the V Eight.
Sound improvement at any volume, and with any type of music is just fantastic - even with most OEM speakers kept. Surround feature was kept by not performing any time alignment in the DSP.
No 12V battery terminal in hatch (like in BMW), 12V cable must be connected directly to battery 50A fuse/cable run thru bulkhead grommet. All plugged in. OEM woofer Morel woofer plugged in.

Can you see this USB logo in any of the USB ports in your U25?
There are 4 ports. Non of them have this.. I know that the logo is for power and data. The logo only show's the power lightning flash. Now having said that, the loaner (it was a 2025 countryman) was the same and it worked perfectly.

Is this an USA U25?
Owners manual states that all USB ports are for charging, none for data. My U25 USB ports have no data capability, no data logo either. My i4 USB ports are 4 for charging, 1 for data/charging (photo).
Need to check what type of MGU (iDrive 9 OEM HU) the U25 has, as it is completely different from the i4 MGU (iDrive 8.5 OEM HU). Normally, all BMW/MINI OEM HU since 2014 have at least 1 data port among its USB ports.
Don't know what to tell you, my owners manual says place a USB drive in one of the USB-C ports in the center console. Mini Representatives have emailed me confirmation that both ports are active. My Center screen shows 2 USB drives and I can select from either.
7/2024.38 manual shows all USB ports are for power - no data reference. No USB port shows as audio source in the display in my U25, regardless of USB format.
After inserting the USB stick into a USB port with data transfer, the audio file information is uploaded. This may take some time, depending on the USB stick, file size, and number of titles.
Music titles protected by integrated digital rights management (DRM) cannot be played.
The following functional requirements apply when using USB audio:
A compatible USB stick is used. A USB port with data transfer is used. (The one located on the front center console) Audio files are available in one of the following formats: MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, FLAC.
Your firmware version is different from mine, that’s all.

None of what you typed shows in my manual display.
You mean what I cut and pasted from the online one in my app, ok.
I have zero skin in this game, my USB drives work in my USB ports. I have USB icons in the infotainment section of the OS. I was trying to help someone, I am finding you a bit exhausting in trying to be right.
