2025 Countryman
To me, these don't look like Minis. Not because of their size, but because they've abandoned the iconic Mini aesthetic of round headlights and soft edges. These 4th Gen Countrymen have angular headlights, straight edges and sharp corners. That's very un-Mini. They've lost their quirkiness and now look like every other car on the road.
We ordered our 2025 Countryman S All4 a month ago. Its built and awaiting transport at Bremerhaven. We are excited about it and were quite impressed by it on the test drive. The YouTube video reviews are all positive. This one is pretty cool:
Its a BMW with the soul of a MINI. My previous Mini experience was a F56 hardtop, a real blast to drive. We are buying this car to replace our 2023 Land Rover Defender. The Defender is a great ride, but more truck than we need. I see the Countryman as a "Mini" Defender of sorts. We might have waited for the EV version, but we are trying to get down to just one principle vehicle and battery the range was just too short for long trips.

My complaint is narrowly that it doesn't look like a MINI, not simply because of its size, but because of its aesthetics. While that opinion is somewhat subjective, it's not entirely so. There are objective features of the MINI aesthetic it's lacking, such as round headlights and soft, curved bonnets. No one sitting in traffic who sees the front profile of this car with its generic angular headlights and sharp angles will instantly recognize it as a MINI. They're more likely to assume it's a KIA.
This isn't just about my own personal preference, but the marketing implications. As I understanding, the market research has always suggested typical MINI owners, particularly those with strong brand loyalty, love the fact that MINIs look unique and stand out from the crowd. The aesthetic is one of the car's strongest draws. With that in mind, it baffles me that MINI would eschew the distinctive round headlights and replace them with headlights you'd find on every other modern car.
To be clear, I'm not commenting on the quality of the car. The U25 might be better constructed, have superior accessories and a more practical design than the earlier generations of Countrymen. And some people may love the way it looks (to each their own).

When I found out that MINI was stopping production on the Clubman, I had to get a 2024. When I picked mine up at the dealership, the 2025 Countryman was in stock. My only issue with the vehicle is its huge size. MINI has never been a "SUV" company, even though the 2024, and earlier, Countryman models were SUV-esque. The 2025 is larger than the already-large 2024 (and earlier) and therefore had no appeal to me. They will be great vehicles for people who want an SUV MINI.
So the Entertainment Source selection menu says FM/AM Radio but I can not find any way to select the AM band. The manual references a separate manual for Navigation/Entertainment/Communication that is not included and must be ordered through the Service Dept.
Nope. Says FM/AM Radio but no way to change bands that I can find.

So you had to go back to a separate remote stuck to the sun visor?
Yes, dumb decision by MINI to omit this feature entirely. Despite my garage door opener being controllable from an app, that won't work while in the car either because the phone connects to MINI's WiFi for AA/CarPlay and door app needs to be connected to home network.
The same - I’ve got a car 2 weeks ago. And mode Personal mode was there. Today I noticed it disappeared. And I see Ambient light color change now available in the Core mode. I think something with a connection to the server and it triggers off the Personal mode.
I like the new design language. MINI had to shake things up and come up with something edgy and still somehow unique to them. They have accomplished the goal. The Countryman still looks like a Countryman and the hardtops still look like hardtops but with modern twists and easter eggs everywhere. Good work. These are still expensive and luxurious cars in a small package and some people will balk at the price but there are other fish to catch and fry in the new car pond for those people.
We picked our 2025 Countryman on Monday, almost exactly 2 months since we ordered it. Pretty fast delivery IMHO. Smoky green with a black top, tan interior. We traded in a 2023 Defender so not only did we not pay sales tax, we also got a check for $4K. The Defender was a great truck but more than we really needed.
When I mentioned to our salesman that there was no Homelink garage door feature he was as surprised and baffled as we were. I hope there will be a way to add it to the "Hey MINI" command. I wonder if the BMW X1 rear view mirror would swap over. In any event we ordered a new Genie remote to clip on the sun visor which just arrived and one is already in the car. Quite a retro move for such a cool car.
We are still climbing the learning curve on this beauty. My wife and I both made our iPhones the main digital key. The good news is that you don't need the key fob to drive it then. The bad news is that without your phone the individual profiles no longer work, you are treated as a guest. If your phone dies somewhere in the boonies you are stuck without the fob. Love/hate thing there.
I also ordered a set of WeatherTech mats which they already have for the 2025 Countryman. The factory mats are not yet available. We also wanted racing stripes on the bonnet but those are not available yet either. Will likely want a cargo area mat when its available.
We ordered the trailer hitch which has a 1" receiver, which will be handy, but the no touch waving the feet option is gone.
The things I like best about the car are the Go-kart mode, the excellent seats, and the steering wheel. The headlights also seem to work much better than those on the Defender.

We were able to get the MINI all season mats (of front, rear and boot) upon delivery in early May, so the parts are in the US already. They are good quality and fit well.
Without the HomeLink hardware, voice control won't ever be able to open your garage door. I'm still stunned that MINI chose to eliminate this feature.
We love our U25 for the most part but there are a host of issues that need sorting (see my previous posts). Most annoying at the moment is the "Low* fan speed which is too high. And the inability to make Go Kart mode the startup mode is baffling but may have to do with its disabling of auto start/stop which impacts mileage and hence EPA regulations, but I am just guessing.
There are so many driver assist features on this car and many are confusing about when they intervene. I must admit that the autonomous driving works very well, it's quite an impressed feature especially when it changes lanes for you.
Nevertheless, I'm glad you love the car. I'm not trying to talk you out of it. I'm just explaining why I'm disappointed in the new design and its angular headlights.
Have you see the new Aceman? To me, in terms of size, shape and styling, it looks like a modern version of the 1st Gen Countryman/R60. It's what I would have expected the Countryman to evolve into, rather than what we got. The Aceman has angular headlights, too, but they're large and aggressive and more rugged-looking than the new Countryman's. Aceman is EV only and isn't available in the US, otherwise I might consider purchasing one.
