Question about the Dragon

I am pretty sure I represent a miniority of MINI owners, but is the dragon event always going to be on the first week of May? I have finals for college that week and I am pretty sure all other college-going MINI owners have finals too. Just wanting to know if it is always going to be on the first of May.

Yes, it’s the last of April, first of May weekend time frame. We have many other casual trips there during the year, but that’s the “Official” one.

 And...I would like to mention that the locals LOVE us for coming there at that time and opening the season with all our MINI goodness! The weather is fairly mild at that time, and the traffic is minimal. Later in the season, you've got too many RVs and general vacation/holiday traffic.

We seem to have established two other traditions, though: crashing the Miatas On The Dragon Meet in July (the Miata folk love us, too) and our other MINI event, Fall On The Dragon (#2 is coming right up...Oct. 21-Oct. 24th...YAY)!

ukbyoung, you should come motor with us next week!

Yes, the precident for the big MINI's on the Dragon weekend is the "first weekend in May". It was a bit confusing for the newbies this year because it was split with the end of April. As Sndwave and MINIho [ ] noted, us die-hards also trek to The Dragon a few other times throughout the year, just for fun. Sounds like next weekends Fall of the Dragon II will be a bigger hit than we expected!

Usually it's Koolmini that suggests a Dragon Run; but feel free to let us know whenever you want to go!

Then I'm confused. This year it was April 29th-May 2nd. How come next year it's May 5-9 instead of April 28th - May 1st? Who decided on this date?

It was decided, by whom I have no memory -- only that it was announced and then generally accepted, that the official Dragon Weekend would ALWAYS be the first FULL weekend in May. A full weekend defined by a Saturday and Sunday. The reason the weekend was 4/29 to 5/2 (which was really 5/3 for some of us) was that Saturday was the 1st. For 2005, Sunday is the 1st not making it the first FULL weekend in May.

Think of the Dragon weekend like Thanksgiving.....some year's it is "late" in November....other years it is early. Always depends on where the 1st of November falls on the calendar....Dragon Weekend (possibly a better holiday, as it combines good food, great friends, and better roads -- with LESS traffic) all depends on where the 1st of May falls on the calendar.

Perhaps this gives you better insight.....perhaps you don't care....frankly, it is all about being at the Dragon for the celebration!!

Start doing your Dragon Weekend Shopping now....

Hugs,
PB

Thanks for the information (although I'm not sure what the "perhaps you don't care" comment is about).

Sorry, I was being a little cheekyn and it sounded more funny in my own head

What I meant was, that was probably FAR more detail than you really asked for and since I tend to go on about details for which most people have long lost interest (or so my Hubby says)...I was merely noting that you may not have needed all the details about the comparison to Thanksgiving....oh, well...like I said...it both sounded better and was actually funny in my own head. I crack myself up.

Hugs,
PB

I personally havent been able to make it to the may dragon one because it falls on finals too...and ironically enough, the fall of the dragon fell on mid-terms

I ran into the same issue - with exams and the Dragon, for both the fall and May event. Luckily, this year I'm graudating ( ) the weekend before the Dragon in May so I'll be there with my party hat on.

Maybe all the kids who couldn't go in May because of exams should work together to plan a smaller Dragon event (obviously open to everyone and nothing such that it would take away attendance from the big May event..)

I went to the Dragon last year the weekend before my final exams of my final year of college... I left on saturday afternoon, and still passed them all.

If I can do it (ADHD & bipolar), so can anyone else!
