Bike rack vs. Backup collision alarm.

Hello all.
Have been searching for a solution to this issue for a while. Really would like some help.

I have a hitch mount bike rack on my 2019 F60. It sets off the backup collision alarm. I would like to know how to either mute the sound or disable it. I doubt the rack can be programmed out, but that would be best!!! Been digging around bimmercode a bit, no luck. I didn't see anything in any of the coding forums, so I decided to ask directly.

Thanks!

I'll take a look when I have a few minutes to spare. I did a quick look through BimmerCode, and it does say you can disable it:
https://bimmercode.app/cars/f56/
Section: PDC
  • Activate PDC when rolling backwards
Enable/disable the automatic activation of the PDC when the car starts rolling backwards.
    Values:
    • Active
    • Not active
    Requirements:
    • “Park Distance Control” PMA_PDC control unit
  • PDC distance switch-off threshold
The driven distance after the PDC is turned off automatically.
    Values:
    • 10 m
    • 20 m
    • 30 m
    • 40 m
    • 50 m
    • 100 m
    • 150 m
    • 200 m
    • 250 m
    Requirements:
    • “Park Distance Control” PMA_PDC control unit
  • PDC speed switch-off threshold
The speed at which the PDC is turned off automatically.
    Values:
    • 5 km/h
    • 10 km/h
    • 15 km/h
    • 20 km/h
    • 30 km/h
    • 36 km/h
    • 40 km/h
    • 50 km/h
    Requirements:
    • “Park Distance Control” PMA_PDC control unit

Went through BimmerCode and you're right, it's not easily found anywhere. Maybe one of the settings in "Expert" settings will disable it, but I personally am not comfortable with changing those values. Maybe reach out to BimmerCode and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Did you install the electrical connection for the hitch as well? When towing electrical connector is used, it disables the backup sensors. If your rack doesn't have lights that plug into the electrical connector, a dummy plug should work.

Whhhaaaaaat?
This is such a thing?!?!?!?

No, I do not have any electrical connections at all, not a dummy plug. Totally excited to find this fix because I want the PDC to work when the rack is off. I will start looking into that now!!!

If anyone has a link to these parts I would love it!!

Cheers,
Tony

Will this wiring harness work?
https://new.minimania.com/part/G3NMX6157/

I didn't see anything about a PDC connection or signal.

I reached out to both Bimmercode and MiniUSA, both said tough beans. Hoping I can figure out the woring harness option.

Sorry, I was assuming you had the actual Mini hitch. You'd have to reach out to them to see if their wiring harness integrates into the vehicles electrical system so that it can be coded to support disabling the rear parking sensors when in use. You may be able to get away with it without actually installing anything. Just code the vehicle for the optional towing hitch and then you'd have an option in iDrive to disable the rear parking sensors. It's option S3ARA or S3ACA depending on which hitch option you have, ARA is just for bike carriers, ACA is for towing.

Here's someone coding it on the X3: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1589082, he had to also retrofit the AAG hitch controller, I'm not sure what the part number for that is on the F60 though and if it has it by default.

No, there is not actual Mini factory hitch or wiring harness.

I contacted minimania.com and they don't have anything for me either.

It is starting to sound like I need to find somebody who knows how to code. I know the beep volume can be turned up and just not all the way down. I need to figure where the minimum volume value can = 0 instead of wherever it is.

There is a factory hitch and wiring harness for it, part 7 in the diagram is the control unit: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/search/...48/71606885352, you'll probably need that for it to automatically turn the sensor off.

Unfortunately the installation instructions for it are only available through the aftersales assistance portal, so you'll probably need a dealer to get access to the specific coding unless someone out there has done it before and documented the procedure.

Whoever sold you the aftermarket hitch should be providing a solution for the rear sensors, they have to know they'll be an issue whenever it is actually used. Your idea with the volume is probably your easiest option since hopefully it's only a single change in the coding.

Thanks for the web link. I only thought to try miniusa. Never heard of bimmercat. Going to see if they will sell me the controller. Thanks!!

Thank you again for liking my volume idea! I think that is the simplest option and for sure cheapest.
