Lightbulb Intercooler Upgrade Time!

Hi all,

Been quite a while since I've done anything to the Countryman, but now it's time!
Just picked up a new intercooler, and I'm trying to figure out if now is the time to upgrade some of the piping that connects to it. I've already done the resonator delete, and that was...a bit challenging, but it worked out great.

Who's done one and what did you buy in advance to replace while the front end was off?

Thanks,
Frank

I picked up a rev9 off of Amazon...it's on eBay as well. I would have liked to have gone with a more expensive one, but unfortunately I can't.

Looks good to me.

I installed mine IC from Radiator Express today and it was a direct fit, about a 2.5 hour project including the resonator delete pipe from WMW. No issues at all.

Hi Metro981:
Nice job. Glad everything worked out.

But now, after seeing an upgraded intercooler installed, I have some concerns. Mainly, isn't most of the additional cooling area provided by the upgrade is being blocked by the crash bumper. And with the new intercooler being squeezed against the crash bumper, the only part that receives direct airflow is the same size as the OEM intercooler. I'm I missing something?

Great question, the photo I posted was before the old intercooler was removed and new one installed. The new IC has plenty of room to receive airflow around the crash bar just as the radiator and AC condenser. The upper section extends above the crash bar.

I was hesitant until reading others post, including independent Mini shops, recommending IC upgrades as part of a larger plan to enhance performance.

Hi everyone, I was actually looking into getting a better intercooler for my 2010 r56, but its hard for me now to drop $500 - $600 on just an intercooler. What is the main difference/concerns with the lower priced intercoolers and higher priced ones?

thanks

Hey guys I looked through eBay and Ali Express and I found the intercooler in the link below to be a good price for me. Can someone have look at it and give me their opinion before I buy it. Just want to make totally sure its a good cheapo IC.

Hi
What you found isn't a great deal. It's $119 plus $81 shipping. You can find many less expensive ones on eBay or Amazon and get them in a couple of days instead of weeks. The going price for one that looks like the one you found is selling for $147 shipped. It looks like a G-Plus unit which uses casted inlet and outlets. I know RadiatorExpress.com sells the OPL intercooler for $137 shipped but it has welded pieces instead of cast. Personally, I believe the fewer welds the better. Hope this helps.

I too am looking to upgrade mine but am having limited success finding one for a 2014 MCS R57 with the N18 engine. Seems most are only listed to fit up to 2012s. Some others say their's fit but on the Internet, you can say anything. Was 2012 the last year of the Gen2 R56? Maybe that's the issue because the R57 continued through 2015 before moving to the Gen3 style. I'd be grateful for any guidance.

Bought this one for my 2012 R60. Couldn’t be happier. Tried and proven. Get down to 0-2 degrees DT from ambient at cruising speeds. Maybe up to 5 degrees at WOT. Solid build.

Thanks for the heads up bud. Unfortunately for shipping to Canada I dont have many choices. The link I posted here is in Canadian dollars so it comes to $200 bucks U.S which is still not that good, but a lot of places dont ship to Canada. Also their are cheaper IC on alibaba express, but they dont have mounting brackets and I am too lazy to find a welder.

Try looking for an intercooler on Amazon or eBay. Same Chinese stuff and sometimes better prices. On eBay look at intercoolers where you can make an offer. I just bought my Mini spark plugs that way. They want $13.49 each and I offered $12. They countered back at $12.14. I have know idea why they added 14 cents!! But it worked for me.

Good luck.

Hi guys, so I am just gonna order an IC from the U.S and get a cross border service to send it over to me in Toronto. There is definitely more choices in ebay.com than in ebay.ca. Now I have seen the G-plus brand recommended by a couple of forum members so I am just going to order the one in the link below.

There are many eBay sites that are the same place. They're located in Middleton, Maison and West Chester, Ohio. You should be fine. I looking to purchase from them too. Trying to see if I can pick it up because I'm nearby in Ohio. That way I can physically see what I'm getting.

Good luck.

Thanks

I already ordered and its ready to be shipped across the border into Canada. I was wondering if I can get away with putting the manufacturing country as U.S instead of china. So that is why I wanted to know if there is any mention of made in China anywhere on the box or the intercooler itself.

Hi everybody, I was looking on ebay for some charge piping to go with my new ebay IC. I found this seller selling a full set for very decent price. Anyone have any opinions on it?

Intake Temps

I recently got my intercooler from Radiator Express installed and am pretty happy with it other than my ultra gauge that I have set to display intake temperature is showing absurdly high temps on throttle. Upwards of 150 degrees F when it’s about 90 degrees outside. I am worried that I might have hooked up a thermometer backwards or am I missing something else. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks
