Thermostat Housing Replacement

Hey guys,

I'm going to be replacing my thermostat housing this week. I'm a novice mechanic - mostly brakes and random odds and ends. I'm planning on following Mod Mini's and Mini Mania's videos but they're working on R56's so it's not a perfect fit. Any tips & tricks specifically for the Countryman?

Thanks!

Not good! I went to rebolt the new one on and the bolts go about 75% in and just spin. I'm afraid the block might be stripped. I'm going to throw in the towel and tow it to the shop .

I am getting the P0597 code and periodically the "reduced engine power" message. I had my mechanic (I live 165 miles from the nearest Mini shop) replace my thermostat housing. All was fine until he went the plug in the sensors. They were the wrong plugs! He called Mini and had the FedEx the new adaptors and it still didn't connect. He ended up putting my old housing back in.
I called the Mini dealership and there is still a 4 month international back order on these housings! This is ridiculous!

Ugh, that's annoying. I was able to find a genuine Mini thermostat on Detroit Tuned. Showed up the next day. Maybe he can order one from them?

Thermostat NIGHTMARE

I have been working on replacing my thermostat in my CM 2012 going on two weeks now. First i needed a harness then the harness did not fit. I ordered a new thermostat with a harness and the thermostat won't fit. I spent most of the day trying to fit this thing on and nothing. it seem that temperature sensor is keeping it form sitting flush.....

I feel ya, man! I ended up towing it to the shop and letting them finish it. All was well and good until I got my random check engine light again.. Back to the shop she goes I gues.
