Driving Lights install instructions

Has anyone attempted to personally install driving lights on their Countryman? I picked up a factory set with the grill, all wires, and switches... Checked with my local dealer about install cost, and about S#@T myself... I am very handy and do all my own normal service work. (I.E. brakes / oil service, ect.)

What I am wondering is if there is an instruction guide out there... I looked around, but could only find something for the R56...

Help anyone???

flipping thru the install instructions... did they redo these so they come on with the regular headlights now ? mine one work with the high beam and my switch is just a single on/off rocker.

It all depends on how you wire it. You can have it one way or the other

Word of warning, pay close attention to how your Foot Well Module is orientated. Old versions of the install instructions are upside down. I ran into that problem and it made for quite the headache. See attached photos, look at the direction that your wires are coming into the module, note the location of the X14261 harness in each, in my car 261 was on the bottom.

this is the 'legal' way and the instructions must do it this way. The secret is the trigger wire A1

this wire controls when the lights can come on. It connects to the BRIGHT ON lead (which is why the connection point is different for halogen and xenon lights). Only when this wire is hot can the DLs come on.

If this wire was connected to the low beam on, or an always on ... you get the idea (simplified explanation btw)

Two concerns:

This works fine for simple DL installs. The factory kit is NOT a simple install ... it is more complicated with the auto reset functions etc {and why the kit is $$ and install $$}

(a simple install would be to just wire and on/off switch with one relay. diagram for comparison:

A legal install moves the wire from the battery to the switch to be bright on to switch ... so the switch is only hot when brights are on.)

Some states check for 'legal' installs during annual inspections. IF your state does such installs you might want to ask around.

If you want more help PM me. I've installed severaL sets for folks, simple wires and factory kits.

Agreed the instructions are opposite. My grey wire was the lower module but the upper set of pins to attach to. Driving Lights install instructions-image-4209811096.jpg Driving Lights install instructions-image-4292880741.jpg

Glad to see this thread. I just got a Countryman S All4 Wednesday after an 8 year gap in MINI ownership! This will likely be the first mod I do.

Thinking about this mod. It is worth getting the grill and bracket (#63132241489) or is it just as easy to use the stock grill and just order brackets?

Thanks,
Chris

Is it fixed interval flashing or more intermittent like a loose connection?

Question, I have a 2016 with Xenon, I put A1 into pin position 4 in X14260 (gray, there was nothing in that position. ). I have everything wired but A1 never goes +12 with lights on and high beams on.??? Does it need any dealer programming to activate this pin?

Uggg, was following the instructions above which I couldn't get to work. Found a different set for R60 with Zenon, A1 wire has to attach to pin 41. Oddly, this one attached doesn't show the switch? Anyways it works now, didnt with wire in pin 4. Changed out the bulbs to CREE LED since I had the halogen housings. Perfect match color temp with Zenon. Only big disappointment was that MINI had put security screws on the bulb holders... why mini, why? No problem, had a full set of security bits.
