Mini R60 DIY 2nd cat delete and resonator

Hello!
I'm new to the forum, however I've been doing research to delete my r60's second cat and resonator plus k&n air filter. I know that there are a few people who have done this however I haven't seen many DIY jobs. I know I need to get a 2.25" test pipe and was wondering if there are any recommendations as to where to find ones or any other tips before I start messing with my mini. Any feedback is appreciated!

I went to a mechanic with an exhaust machine so he could flair the fittings. Any exhaust shop will be able to do it cheap. Some may not cut the 2nd cat off, maybe you could cut it off before going.

You will need:
1. One of these - http://www.jegs.com/p/Patriot-Exhaus...97250/10002/-1 find the 2.25" OD pipe

2. Two butt connection band clamps. The band clamp should measure 2.25" ID on the inside of the band clamp.

3. One angle grinder

4. One pair of goggles

5. a lift or jack stands.

If you know how to weld, that's the better way to go... although I have had good success with the band clamps.

Heres a thread on how some people did it. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...elete-cm4.html

Mine was easy. Drove up onto the rhino ramps, crawled under with a chaincutter I borrowed from o'reilly's. Cut out the cat and resonator, clamped in the pipe I also got from o'reilly's. Later I decided I wanted it cleaner, went to muffler shop and had them weld pipe so it was perfect. Once the cat is gone, they'll do whatever you want. They just won't remove it for you.

How much did the shop charge for the weld? Local or chain shop?

I think $160 at master muffler. They made new downpipe back piece with flex pipe welded to myamyaftermarket exhaust

Are butt connection band clamp or lap joint clamp better for this job?

Are you using Mild Steel Exhaust Tubing from Jegs, 18 Gauge, 2-1/4'' Tube Diameter, 5' Length?

Is the size of 2 1/4" used so it slides over the stock 2 1/8" tubing? Wouldn't 2 1/8" tubing be better with butt connection clamps or use lap joint clamp if using 2 1/4" straight pipe?

Is the Mild Steel tubing quality sufficient?

What is the length of tubing needed; it says sold in 5 ft sections?

Either lap or butt will do the job. Just need the appropriate pipe size to make it work one way or another. 2 1/4" OD pipe matches what's on the mini. The ID of a 2 1/4" OD is 2 1/8". That's what's on the mini. If you go with that, then butt joint band clamp will work. If you go with a 2 1/4" ID pipe, then get the lap joint band clamps. Stainless steel pipe should only be used. The legnth is roughly 30" I can check tomorrow.

Got it taken care of today on my Paceman at an exhaust shop for $100. Sounds great and a little extra pull also.
