New Countryman owner

First I wanted to introduce myself.
On Friday, I picked up a 2014 Mini Countryman Cooper S All4.
It is oxford green metallic with a white roof.

I really love the Mini.
I ended up trading in a 2012 Nissan Titan 4x4.
So a bit of a big difference.
Also relocated back to Los Gatos, CA, from Austin, TX.
And my parking situation was not working too well.
Lastly $100+ per tank, was starting to get to me, getting only 11MPG.

I wanted to add, that was torn between the Paceman and the Countryman. The Countryman seemed more practical since I am in the process of fixing up my house.

I do have 2 questions though. Being a DIY type...I like to do most things myself.
Any good programmer/tuners for the engine to get a little more HP?
Has anyone been able to just buy the program code to enable Sirius and have done it themselves?

I have had experience in doing this on my wife's FX35 with the navigation, and updated the infotainment code on my old Dodge Challenger.

Congrats on the purchase. Loving my CM as well.

A really good popular upgrade is the JB+. It provides noticeable additional power after a few hundred miles of the ECU learning. I am running this right now and am very happy with the results. Its a piggy back plug in, so you can remove for dealer visits. Check this thread:

This thread is very helpfull with different companies providing ECU flash. Probably will void the warranty, so this might not be what you are looking for. But very informative. Also, according to NM, late 2013 and up ECU run a slightly different program that they are trying to work around for a flash right now. Not sure if you have an auto or not but that adds another level of complexity to the tune as well.

Manic is coming out with a ECU flash that can be reversed at anytime. Looks to be very promising. I plan to do this when it comes out.

As for the Sirius... would love to have my car set up with this as well. I know of no work-around other than going to the dealer and forking over $500!!!! Please let me know if you cone up with something.

thanks for the response. good stuff.
Another DIY upgrade that looks nice is JCW gauges.
I found a youtube video and the install looks easy.

Congrats! That is one of my all time favorite color combos. Pics?

JB+ and a rear sway bar are two cheap and (fairly) easy upgrades for much improved fun.

What about a digital gauge/OBDII scan tool like the Ultra Gauge (http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/) so you can see what's going on with your tune?

Thanks for posting this.

It seems that the only option right now is the JB+, with Manic a possibility in the near future (hopefully)? Are there any other options for our beloved N18 engine?

In that N18 tuning thread you posted, someone mentioned that Evolve is also working on a solution for the N18. Very exciting!

If you get an ECU flash, there is no learning period. However, the JB+ doesn't reprogram the ECU or affect it directly, so the car has to learn (just like it adapts to your driving on a regular basis).

I have the UG. Does not read or clear codes on the Countryman? JB+ is awesome. Had an ECU tune first and the JB feels so much better. Car felt like it was fighting the tune whereas the JB plays much nicer.

Yes that's unfortunate that the UG is unable to read/clear codes on the CM. Hopefully they will figure it out and offer a fix in software.

However, the supported gauges appear to be quite extensive.

The price is very reasonable, seems like a no-brainer.

I do plan to get a JB+ once I have passed the break-in period.

Welcome to the Countryman family! Make sure to join us on Facebook at www.cmonfb.com as well. There is much love for the JB+ tuner around here. It's great for a bit of an increase in power. I went with a full Group4 ECU tune an gained 40+hp and 50+lb/ft of torque... thing flies! Turbo upgrades coming soon.

Thanks for all of the advice, and being very welcoming.

I am looking forward to adding some HP to my Mini.
Just wanted to also mention, that I brought my Countryman into the dealer this weekend for it's initial detailing.
They gave me a 2013 Paceman FWD stick to drive for the day.
The AWD Countryman Auto seems so much quicker.

Much happier with the Countryman.
I would like to eventually give it a bit of a rally sport look.
Lights in the front, factory mud flaps, rally wheels, new exhaust, intake and tune.
