R60 Remote Start help!! Please
Remote Start help!! Please
Looking for some help! Just got a 2013 CM S ALL4 and looking for a remote car starter. The Tech at Best Buy said I needed a module from BMW for 1K and then I could do it otherwise he couldn't do anything for me. I can't see that being true. I wanted a Viper remote start with the smart Phone app. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or what type of remote Stater will work.
Peck...weren't you following this thread? I dont think the answer will change just because you start a new thread....
I bookmarked this thread a while back:

Is MCS not CM, but may be helpful.

Interesting link. Looks like there is a way to do it but its a bit pricey and requires someone who knows what they are doing which would then exclude places like BestBuy....

I have had RS on a previous vehicle and loved it. I looked into doing it for the MINI and just realized it wasn't worth it. Too much time and cost involved to make it work when it wasn't a common thing to do. And if you are going to get it done at a shop, find a real car audio/alarm install shop and skip bestbuy.

Call me old fashioned, but is it really that hard to drive a car when it is cold? I headed to work last week here in Colorado when the temp showed -17. The seat heaters had my backside toasty warm in a matter of a couple minutes and the car heater was getting me up to a warm 72 degrees within a few additional minutes. I had my gloves off within 10 minutes. Sure it was a bit chilly for a few minutes, but I just don't see the need. I'm actually quite impressed in the Countryman's winter capabilities.

It's simple the OP wants a remote start and was looking for advice here on how to make it happen, instead you gave him a lecture on how to "man up."
Well thanks for all the input. I got some feedback from a friend that owns a car audio/alarm install shop and he said it might cost upwards of 2K and I have to give up a FOB. Told him thanks but no thanks. Its not the cold seat cuz most of the winter my coat stays in the car for emergencies only. I wanted it more for the snow and crap on the car. OH well thanks again.
looks like a solution may have surfaced:

Sounds like this is used as a bypass. Supposedly uses factory harnesses so no wire splicing is necessary. Also allows a triple click of the lock button on your original key fob to do it, or is compatible with other remote starts.
I reached out to them on Facebook. This could be a viable option.

Very promising. Too bad the range is horrible on our key fobs. Going have to supplement it with another key fob i guess.
They offer a range extender (for an additional fee) as well for fobs with poor range.
Yes. I saw that. I think it requires an additional key fob though. Would be nice to use the same one. I guess we shall see. Thanks
If you manage to find an RS that is compatible with your MC AND someone who can install it, you may wind up invalidating the car's warranty. I would check with your dealer first and get it in writing that your warranty will remain intact. You don't want to wind up with an RS that works but a car that doesn't and can't be fixed under the warranty.
