Crash! Bang!

The unthinkable happened 1 week ago, a totally stupid young man and his soda bottle decided to rearrange the rear of the MINI. Anger is the 1st thought, we may get over it...someday. Word to wise..if you drop a soda bottle on the floor of your car, lets leave it there! The MINI took the hit in the center of the hatch as I was turning into a residential driveway, the 06 Impala was doing 30 +, me under 5. Two sore necks were the injuries, the MINI is over $7000. I must give many, many thanks to MINI for designing a structure that will absorb a hit like that and drive away while the other was towed. The hatch still opens and latches, the body seams are straight, no glass breakage nor air bag deployment. The metal channel under the bumper cover was broken in half and the body was pushed into the storage area about 3 inches. But it can be repaired, Willis Auto in Des Moines has the task.
More as the repairs continue

Well, it's good to hear another confirmation that the MINI Countryman is just as sturdy as it feels - under the worst of conditions. A collision with a Honda Odyssey took off the right front corner of my Fenton - no air bags or broken glass, all the doors worked, and I drove it off the road to a safer place without difficulty. A little over $13K to put everything right. The Odyssey did not recover, but its occupants were OK.

And that's when you got the white roof, right? Still enjoying the color change?

Yes, the black -> white roof with MINI bonnet stripes (used BMW Alpine White on the roof to better match the MINI stripes - go figure) has worked out well and, we suspect, may provide a little better visibility...

He reached down to pick up a dropped soda can or bottle. Stated in the first post.

Bummer. I'm glad you're ok. It's a shame to get wrecked for such a stupid asinine reason. Keep your eyes on the road. I feel for you. Good luck with the repairs. I

This is what you see after you drill out about 50 spot welds. I was at the shop today, all parts are in and HOPEFULLY the BIGMINI will be in the paint area Friday or Monday. The tech went thru 3 drill bits, the panel and welds are tough, these bits are like a mini hole saw and take a beating. After welding and sealing it should be almost as good as new. The shop did find a small dent at the left lower body by the hatch, they will paint by the tail lamp to repair. They are using the original spoiler and glass, saves painting and the glass is still MINI. Overall looks good and it is one tough MINI.

Ooooo, there's something about a naked, exposed PR boot that gets me going.

Won't be long until all is OK.

Looks like BIGMINI is on the mend and will be ready for the road again soon.

I hope the two sore necks you mentioned in your original post are also back in tip top shape.
