When I turn off the engine....

When I turn off the engine all the accessories stay on. Like the windshield wipers! Why is this, and is there anything I can do to stop it?

It has rained a lot lately and every time I get out of the car I have to remember to switch the wipers off, both front and rear.

Coming from Toyota this seems very basic.

By the way I am now at 11,000km and I am still loving my ALL4. Getting my winter tires on next week ,be interesting to see if they change the ride.

Do they shut off when you lock the car?

Are you hitting the start/stop button a second time after you turn off the engine? That should shut everything off.

Yes, but as I live in the boonies I never lock my car unless I am in the city, which is once a month or so.

Hmmm the second push on the start/stop button, I'll give that a go tomorrow.

Two cranks to open the doors, two pushes to turn off accessories. Is this a MIni thing?

It's a Bimmer thing. You'll get used to it, eventually.

When I try hitting the start/stop button a second time, it just restarts the engine. It does not turn anything off. If I try hitting the button two times in quick succession, the second push doesn't do anything. The only way to turn everything off is to remove the key fob completely.

That's the way mine works - take out the key, and you're done.

Gear lever in Park (or where ever you like in manual), hand brake on, and get your big ol' foot off the brake. Foot on brake = we're going somewhere, foot off brake = we're here.

Sealy - Who doesn't understand the take the key out stuff

That's not the way my 07 MCS works. I have the convienence package so maybe that makes a difference. If had put the key in the slot, when I remove it the engine shuts off but everything else stays on. I can get out and if I don't lock it, the radio will keep playing for about 30 minutes. I don't remember if the wipers, a/c fan, etc stay working or not during that.

The double push on the stop/start button works like a charm. I just feel so dumb, perhaps reading the manual would've been smart!!

But the taking the key out thing?? It lives in my purse, can't remember what it looked like.

Better remember to plug that key fob in every now and again to keep the battery charged. ;-)

if you have comfort access also holding the start stop button down versus just tapping it will work.

The key doesn't have a rechargeable battery, so don't worry about plugging it in.
